What a spectacular day on Table Mountain! The Grade 5s were treated to perfect weather conditions, with clear skies, warm sunshine and breathtaking views stretching across Cape Town. Our learners had the opportunity to explore one of South Africa’s most iconic landmarks while learning about its unique plants, animals and history. We spotted dassies basking in the sun and discovered their surprising connection to elephants! We also learned about the blister bush, the formation of the mountain, and identified famous landmarks such as Lion’s Head and Signal Hill. One of the highlights was learning about the reservoir hidden beneath the mountain, which plays an important role in Cape Town’s water supply. The guides were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging, helping bring the mountain’s stories to life and making the experience both educational and memorable. A special thank you to the parents who assisted the Grade 5 teachers throughout the day. Your support is always greatly appreciated. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Verushka and Ronald for their generous donation of ice creams for the entire grade – it was the perfect treat on a beautiful winter’s day! 🍦

Term 2 Sports Review:

From 16 March until 29 May, the winter season has been another exceptionally busy and rewarding sporting season for Camps Bay Primary School. Across all sporting codes, our learners participated in an impressive 230 fixtures, recording 119 wins, 30 draws and 81 losses.

While the results themselves are pleasing, the most significant statistic is undoubtedly the number of fixtures played. This term saw a substantial increase in playing opportunities for our learners, largely due to our commitment to attending and hosting festivals across a variety of sporting codes. These festivals provided valuable match experience, exposure to different opponents and the opportunity for more children to represent the school.

Netball enjoyed an outstanding season, playing 92 matches and achieving 57 victories, while rugby recorded a positive season with 22 wins from 41 fixtures. Boys’ soccer teams competed in 57 matches throughout the term, with several notable performances from the U13A side, while our girls’ soccer programme continued to grow through regular fixtures and festival participation. A special mention to our cross country learners who have shown dedication ona. weekly basis with the Prep learners showing the way with some top 10 finishes in some of the races.

Beyond the major codes, our chess, squash and table tennis teams represented the school with distinction, producing several excellent results against strong opposition.

A particular highlight of the term was the number of learners who had the opportunity to wear the green and gold. By embracing festivals and additional fixtures, we have been able to increase participation and ensure that more children gain meaningful match experience, develop their skills and build confidence in a competitive environment.

As always, our sport programme is about far more than results. The resilience, sportsmanship, teamwork and commitment displayed by our learners throughout the term have been outstanding and continue to reflect the values of Camps Bay Primary School. Thank you to our coaches, staff, parents and supporters for the countless hours invested in making these opportunities possible.

We proudly celebrated 120 years of education in Camps Bay with our Founder’s Day assemblies, marked by a very special treat for our learners.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly our guest at assembly — the daughter of former principal, Mr Bernie Segal. Mr Segal composed the school song that we sing each week, and it was a truly memorable moment to have his daughter, Berry, perform it for us live. A past SA Idols winner, she captivated the audience and was an absolute hit with the learners.

Our sincere thanks to The Dairy Den for contributing to the celebrations with delicious treats — every learner received a doughnut to mark this significant milestone.

Finally, thank you to all the parents who attended both assemblies. Your continued support means a great deal to us and adds so much to occasions like these.
