35 regions. Nine provinces. One Eskom Expo International Science Fair.

From Cape Town to Ehlanzeni, Capricorn to Kimberley, East London to Dr Kenneth Kaunda, young scientists have spent the past few months putting their research to the test.

Now, selected projects will come together at the Eskom Expo International Science Fair, bringing some of the strongest research from across the country onto one exhibition floor.

Different communities. Different questions. Different solutions. One shared passion for discovery.

Final selections will be announced from 10 September. Follow our social media platforms as the Road to ISF begins.

The 2026 Eskom Expo Regional Science Fairs would not have been possible without an incredible network of people working together across South Africa.

To our young scientists, judges, teachers, parents and guardians, Regional Science Fair committees, volunteers, mentors, schools, host institutions, partners and sponsors, thank you.

Every project displayed, question asked, judging session completed and award presented was made possible through your collective commitment to creating opportunities for young people in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation.

Most importantly, thank you to our title sponsor, Eskom, for continuing to invest in the development of South Africa’s young scientists.

Together, you made the 2026 Regional Science Fair season possible.

Dedication and months of scientific research were on display at the Bohlabela Regional Science Fair, where young scientists confidently presented their projects after progressing through the various stages of the Eskom Expo programme.

Hosted at Hoërskool Sybrand in Sabie on 15 August 2026, the Regional Science Fair featured 176 research projects, including group projects, presented by 212 learners in Grades 4 to 12 and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students NC(V) Level 2-4. Participants advanced to the Regional Science Fair after taking part in a range of Eskom Expo activities throughout the year, including workshops and compulsory District Expos, where they received valuable guidance and feedback from judges, mentors and STEMI professionals.

This year’s projects reflected a wide range of scientific interests and community-focused solutions across the 13 Eskom Expo categories. The most popular category was Engineering, which attracted 39 entries, followed by Biomedical and Medical Sciences (24) and Energy (20).
