Moving into Dance Mophatong will be performing Man Longing is an exploration into the dark and sinister world of human trafficking. Through the use of dance and poetry this choreography hopes to bring awareness to young people, of the dangers that lurk out there and the consequences of being a victim of human trafficking. Many young people are forced into prostitution against their will, some are kept as modern day slaves, and others are introduced to the underworld of drug dealing and use. The city, while luring in its attraction of greener pastures, leaves many stranded and at risk of the evils that prowl the streets in the quiet stillness of night.

Moving into Dance Mophatong is South Africa’s premier professional, full-time, contemporary African dance company and training academy, with a national and international footprint, they will be performing a phenomenal dance at our opening ceremony tomorrow. MIDM is driven and run by a dynamic team, accountable to a Board of Trustees.
Under the leadership of Chief Executive, Nadia Virasamy and acclaimed Artistic Director, Mark Hawkins, Moving into Dance Mophatong presents work that is thought-provoking and innovative, yet accessible. Its work brings to life the zeitgeist of contemporary African dance, Afrofusion, which is characterised by sheer physical beauty and self-expression.
Through the organisation’s Performing Arts Training Course (PATC), young talented dancers between 18-30 years old, from some of the most poverty stricken areas in the country, are identified and bought to Johannesburg to be part of the South African Qualification Authority Accredited Training Course. The students are not only trained in dance and movement, but also educated in business communication skills, computer training, career development skills in related environments, research ability and dance facilitation and choreography.

We're very saddened by the news this morning of Mr. Ahmed Kathrada's passing. We were very excited and privileged to have him attend our SASSY conference last year. And we were very grateful that he and his foundation were coming to this year's AISA GISS conference. With the previous news of his hospitalization, Ms. Sophia Williams - De Bruyn from the Kathrada foundation agreed to come speak with us in his stead. His contributions not only to South Africa but to our world are immeasurable. We send our deepest condolences and support to his family and friends. May you rest in Peace Uncle Kathy, and thank you

Hello Everyone,

There seems to be a confusion about the pages we are using for GISS. This is our public page and we do have a private page it is called AISA GISS JOHANNESBURG 2017. If you are an official participant of GISS and are coming to the conference please like and follow this page AND go to the other page and ask to be added. That page will have private information regarding schedules and such for the conference. If you for some reason were removed from the other page we apologize and will add you back as soon as we see your invite. We are sorry again for the confusion and hope you are excited about the conference.
