Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a serious, lifelong, neurobiological developmental disorder. There is not just one type of autism, but many, caused by different combinations of genetic and environmental influences. ASD refers to a range of c

onditions characterised by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviours, speech and nonverbal communication, as well as by unique strengths and differences. The number of children that are diagnosed with ASD is rapidly on the rise. Learners with ASD need specialised and intensive therapy and education. Although therapy shows excellent results when started at a young age, it is almost impossible for children to get enrolled in the existing autism schools, and some have a waiting list of four years. The best place for a child diagnosed with Autism is at home with his/her family, and there are no Autism Specialist schools in our area - Bredasdorp, Overberg, Western Cape, South Africa.
