April is Autism Awareness Month
At Wandsworth School, we celebrate and support every child for who they are. Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a spectrum - which means every individual experiences it differently.
Some children may be highly verbal, while others communicate using gestures, visuals, or assistive tools. Some may seek sensory input, while others may feel overwhelmed by sounds, textures, or busy environments. There is no βone size fits allβ, and thatβs what makes each child unique.
The spectrum can include:
πΈ Children who need higher levels of daily support.
π Children who are more independent but may struggle socially or emotionally.
β¨ Children with specific strengths, interests, and incredible talents.
This month, we encourage awareness, acceptance, and kindness. By learning more about autism, we can create a world where every child feels seen, heard, and valued.
