My favorite composer

The great Frédéric Chopin died on this day 176 years ago, at the age of 39. 🎹❤️

His cause of death was recorded as tuberculosis, based on an autopsy performed by his physician, Jean Cruveilhier, who Chopin had specifically requested. However, more recent analyses suggest that it may have been cystic fibrosis or emphysema.

Chopin had a deep fear of being buried alive, and asked that his body and heart be buried separately. His body was laid to rest in Paris, while his heart was preserved in cognac in a separate oak container. Honouring his wish that the heart be returned to Poland, Chopin’s eldest sister, Ludwika Jędrzejewicz, smuggled it past Austrian and Russian border agents and brought it to Warsaw. It was kept in the catacombs of the Holy Cross Church until it was discovered in 1879 and moved upstairs.
