The Centre for Gender and Africa Studies is proud to present the annual Africa Day Memorial Lecture.
This lecture reconsiders Africa day not only as a commemoration of political independence. but as a moment of reckoning with African histories of power that colonial narratives have struggled to remember. Centering gender as an African political archive rather than a social add-on, the lecture traces how authority, legitimacy, and personhood have been exercised, contested, and disciplined across time.
