Progress doesn't always make a big noise.

Sometimes progress looks like concentrating for a little longer.
Trying something new.
Trying again.
Discovering something they can do.

At Blaze @ The Sanctuary, we celebrate these moments because what may seem like a small step can be a huge achievement for a child. 🌱

Our educators and support staff are there to guide, encourage and celebrate each step along the way.

We want these children to continue having access to the people, spaces and specialised support that help them learn, grow and become more independent.

And that's why we are fighting to protect the centre they know and learn in. 💚

The property is for sale, and we need to raise R2.2 million to secure it.

🌿 Meet the Team Monday | Lindiwe Mjikela

Today we’re introducing Lindiwe Mjikela, one of the wonderful facilitators at Blaze @ The Sanctuary. 💚

One of the things that makes Lindiwe proud is seeing her learners do something for the first time that others may have thought they couldn't. Those moments of achievement remind her just how much potential each child has. 🌱

Her time at Blaze has also changed the way she looks at behaviour. In other environments, when a child had a meltdown, it could be seen simply as “bad behaviour”. At Blaze, Lindiwe learned to ask a different question:

What is this child trying to tell me?

Is it the noise? The light? Are they tired? Is something overwhelming them?

Understanding what may be behind a child's behaviour has changed the way Lindiwe supports and connects with her learners. 💚

And there is a fun side to Lindiwe too! She describes herself as quiet, but outside of work she is actually quite silly, loves to laugh and enjoys music. 🎶😂

And the best part? The children bring out that silly side of her! 💚

We are so grateful to have Lindiwe as part of the Blaze team. 🌿

It is a familiar environment where children can learn, develop, build confidence and experience the support they need each day.

We were privileged enough to give 2 information sessions to staff of Pick ‘n Pay Towers. This was done to improve their knowledge of autism as well as some suggestions on how to support autistic people in their shop. Thank you for the willingness to learn and assist our families while shopping. They also spoiled us with a very large chocolate cake!

💚 Learning Skills for the Future

At Blaze @ The Sanctuary, learning isn't only about what happens in a textbook.

For some of our older learners, the classroom becomes a place where they can learn practical skills, explore their abilities and discover how to make and create things for themselves. 🌱

These skills are about more than simply making something. They are about building confidence, independence and a sense of what is possible.

Every new skill learned is another step towards giving our learners greater opportunities to participate, contribute and become as independent as possible. 💚

This specialised learning environment has been created around the unique needs of our children, and we want to make sure it can continue.

The property where Blaze operates is now for sale, and we have the opportunity to purchase it and secure the future of the school for the 35 children who rely on this environment.
