Various training programmes are offered by Marematlou Training Institute, including training opportunities for unemployed youth, TVET students, learners from secondary schools, continuous professional development for teachers and TVET lecturers, as well as support staff.

Marematlou Training Institute is in the process of applying for the status of Institute of Excellence (ISOE) through MICTSETA. In addition, a notable factor is that the South African Council for Educators (SACE) programme for continuing professional development recognises the Marematlou Training Institute teacher development short learning programmes and points are allocated for educators’ participation.

In addition, Marematlou Training Institute has applied to the Council for Higher Education (CHE) for programme approval for an Advanced Diploma in School Leadership and Administration.

OVERVIEW AND HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

As a professional training provider, Marematlou Training Institute aspires to take South Africa forward with regard to a skills revolution by contributing to skills development in critical and scarce skills through intervention programmes. Marematlou Training Institute intends to achieve the envisaged goals by ensuring ease of accessibility to superior quality diplomas, certificates and short learning programmes/ courses in areas of strategic importance. The core business of Marematlou Training Institute involves creating tailor-made training programmes that focus on staff members, teaching support, youth programmes and continuous professional development.

Marematlou Training Institute conducted skills audits in three provinces and, to date, more than 12 564 teachers, heads of department, deputy principals and principals in the provinces of Limpopo, Free State and Mpumalanga, as well as Centlec, Transnet, Free State Training and Development Institute, the Department of Health and Palama were successfully trained and certified on accredited short learning programmes, inter alia:

Facilitation Strategy; Strategic Planning; Performance Management;

Moral Intelligence; Leadership and Change Management;

Research Methodology; Report Writing;

Mentor Schools; Managing and Mentoring; School Management and Leadership;

Financial Management; Labour Relations; Assessor Training;

Mathematics; Physical Science; Accounting; and others; and

Moderator Training and Content Training; Mathematics and Science Training.

Marematlou Training Institute has trained more than 900 Youth through funding obtained from Centlec, Transnet, ETDPSETA, EWSETA, Free State Department of Education, Free State Training and Development Institute and Fezile Dabi District DoE.

Notably, MTI was afforded the opportunity to train 250 unemployed youth in National Higher Certificates: Development Practice; 30 candidates in National Certificate: Information Technology System Support; and, 30 candidates in National Certificate: Information Technology End User. Marematlou Training Institute team members have been acting in an advisory capacity to institutions such as Umalusi, the Free State Monitoring and Evaluation Committee in the Premier’s Office and the Provincial Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign.

In addition, Marematlou Training Institute acts in an advisory capacity to its sister company, JENN Training and Consultancy, assisting with the Free State Department of Education Grade 12 results since 2009 to date. Furthermore, pride is taken in conducting Human Resource Development strategies that include curriculum delivery and innovative facilitation strategies.

Marematlou Training Institute advocates state-of-the art thinking on matters related to workplace performance, focusing on employers and employees, together with aspects of innovation, technology and business management.

Marematlou Training Institute acts as a catalyst for government and leading industrialists by co-creating new socio-economic realities. Marematlou Training Institute is located in Bloemfontein, East London, Queenstown, Butterworth, Port St Johns and Bizana and the intention is to create and maintain an academic culture and student life that is conducive to all stakeholders.
