Motheo TVET College recently had the honour of hosting the National COSACSA Academic Eisteddfod at the National Artisan Development Academy (NADA) Campus in Bloemfontein, bringing together talented students from TVET Colleges across South Africa for a celebration of academic excellence, creativity and talent.

As the hosting province, the Free State proudly welcomed participants from its four TVET Colleges, who joined students from across the country to compete on the national stage under the theme “Advancing Academic Excellence.”
The event provided a platform for students to showcase their talents, knowledge, creativity and confidence through various academic and cultural disciplines. The competition was intense, with students demonstrating remarkable dedication, preparation and passion throughout the programme.

Motheo TVET College extends its heartfelt congratulations to all its students who participated in the National COSACSA Academic Eisteddfod. Their commitment and determination are a true reflection of the talent and potential that exists within the TVET sector.
We also applaud all the Free State TVET College students who represented the province with pride and contributed to making the event a memorable national showcase.

The successful hosting of this prestigious event would not have been possible without the collective efforts of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), officials, lecturers, support staff, stakeholders and sponsors.

On behalf of Motheo TVET College, it is my great honour to wish all women a joyous and inspiring Women’s Day as we commemorate 70 years of women’s resilience, achievement and the ongoing struggle for equality. Under this year’s theme, “Empowering Women, Empowering the Nation,” we celebrate the vital contributions of women to our families, our communities and our country.

Education and skills development are at the heart of national transformation. As Principal, I reaffirm our College’s commitment to providing accessible, high-quality training and learning opportunities that equip women, students, staff and community members alike with the tools they need to lead, innovate and prosper. When we invest in women’s education and economic participation, we strengthen households, workplaces and the nation as a whole.

Today we honour the achievements of our female students, lecturers, support staff who have broken barriers, excelled in trades and professions, and modelled leadership and service. We also acknowledge the work still to be done: closing gender gaps in STEM and leadership, eliminating gender-based violence, and ensuring safe, inclusive campuses where every woman can thrive.

Warm wishes and solidarity,

Prof MDM Phutsisi
Principal, Motheo TVET College

Motheo TVET College Hosts Social Inclusion and Equity Workshop

Motheo TVET College hosted a Social Inclusion and Equity Workshop at our Bloemfontein Campus. The workshop was facilitated by the Department of Higher Education and Training’s Director responsible for Social Inclusion, Ms Sesi Mahlobogoane, and was presented in two sessions — one for Broad Management Members and a second session for our interns.

The workshop aimed to promote an inclusive and respectful workplace and to address issues relating to sexual harassment and misconduct. Ms Mahlobogoane emphasised that all people are equal as provided for in the Bill of Rights and urged managers to treat everyone with respect and dignity, stressing the need for workplaces free from discrimination, harassment and all forms of misconduct.

Addressing Broad Management Members, Principal Prof Dipiloane Phutsisi welcomed the workshop and underlined its role in strengthening the College’s organisational culture: “I hope this workshop will make us think differently. It is an opportunity for self-correction. We will continue this conversation with the Department to address these matters. We should all be mindful of our conduct in the workplace.”

This workshop forms part of Motheo TVET College’s ongoing commitment to social inclusion, equity and accountability as we continue to foster a safe, respectful and dignified environment for all employees and students.
