The Faculty of Education academic staff members have travelled to Paris, France, to participate in the 5th Paris Conference on Education 2026 at Sorbonne University International Conference Center (CICSU), taking place from 15–19 June 2026.

This international conference provides an excellent opportunity for our academics to gain new insights, engage with global education experts, build valuable networks, and explore innovative ideas that contribute to excellence in teaching, research, and community impact.

We wish them a successful and enriching conference experience as they represent the Faculty and the University on the global stage.

Dr Maritza Olivier presented her paper, "Perspectives on Language During the Transition from Grade R to Grade 1," at the Faculty of Education's 8th Annual Staff Conference. Her presentation explored the role of language in supporting learners as they navigate this important transition in their educational journey.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS-Prof LC Jita, Dean: Faculty of Education

As the keynote speaker at the Faculty of Education's 8th Annual Staff Conference, Prof LC Jita presented the State of Research in the Faculty, highlighting key achievements, emerging research priorities, and growth opportunities.

His address emphasised the importance of impactful research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation in addressing educational challenges and strengthening the Faculty's contribution to knowledge production and societal development.

Prof ML Mokhele-Makgalwa – Vice Dean: Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies officially welcomed delegates to the Faculty of Education's 8th Annual Staff Conference.

In her welcoming remarks, Prof Mokhele-Makgalwa encouraged delegates to embrace the conference as a space for meaningful engagement, knowledge sharing, innovation, and collaboration. She highlighted the importance of working together to advance research, teaching excellence, and the Faculty's commitment to shaping the future of education.

The Teaching Practice Programme Director, Prof Thuthukile Jita, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed sincere appreciation to the various stakeholders whose invaluable contributions ensured the success of the event. She further commended the strong partnerships and collaborative efforts among the stakeholders, highlighting their vital role in fostering the holistic development of the student teachers.

Bishop Billy Ramahlele provided guidance on how professionals can remain principled and purpose-driven in their careers. He emphasised the importance of mastering key values and skills necessary for long-term success, including integrity, discipline, and accountability.
