Thank You, UFS Alumni Community! ⚽💙

Despite the cold and rainy weather, the University of the Free State Alumni community came out in full support on Friday, 18 September 2026, to stand behind our Kovsie football team as they faced the University of the Western Cape (UWC) at Shimla Park in the final game of the 2026 Varsity Cup Football campaign.

Our Shimla team gave it their all and secured a victory over UWC. Unfortunately, despite the win, the team was eliminated from the competition on goal difference. It was a tough way for the campaign to end, but the incredible support from our alumni made the occasion truly special.

To all UFS alumni who braved the rain, travelled to the stadium, raised their voices and stood proudly behind our team — we see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you.

Your presence demonstrated that the Kovsie spirit remains strong no matter the weather. Rain or shine, you stood with your university and your team.

Thank you for showing up. Thank you for believing. Thank you for standing with UFS.

From a small village near Matatiele in the Eastern Cape to Cape Town’s technology and business landscape, UFS alumnus Ntsikayomzi Gidi is demonstrating how education, resilience, and purpose can turn dreams into impact.

A Bachelor of Administration graduate who completed his studies in 2024, Gidi now works at The Foschini Group (TFG) while pursuing his entrepreneurial vision through GIDIDEL PROJECTS (Pty) Ltd, a technology company developing AI-assisted business systems for South African enterprises.

His goal is to create practical technology that helps businesses improve decision-making, streamline operations, and automate repetitive processes.

For Gidi, artificial intelligence is not something to fear but an opportunity to reshape the future. He believes South Africa’s youth can harness technology and entrepreneurship to create value, generate employment, and contribute to economic growth.

His journey was further strengthened by reconnecting with the UFS community at the UFS Alumni Connect in Cape Town, where conversations around entrepreneurship, AI and innovation reinforced his vision.

From humble beginnings to building technology solutions for South African businesses, Gidi’s story embodies the spirit of UFS alumni: lead, innovate, and inspire wherever life takes you.
