LATE REPOST | YOUTH BUSINESS BREAKFAST 2026 CHAPTER TWO
The SRC Deputy President, Ms Nwabisa Mageqa, delivered a Message of Support at Chapter 2 of the Youth Business Breakfast 2026, held under the theme “Does Youth Day Still Belong to the Youth?” The session provided a platform for robust discussions on the state of youth development, education, leadership, unemployment, and governance. Through her contribution, critical issues affecting students and young people were brought to the forefront, reinforcing the need for continued dialogue and meaningful action to address the challenges confronting the youth of today.

The Office of the Deputy President and Academics is currently attending the Siyaphumelela Conference, being held in Gauteng at Boksburg, Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre
Representing the Central University of Technology in attendance are: the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, Professor Wendy Setlalentoa, alongside delegates from all faculties, the Student Academic Development and Support (SADS) Department, as well as Governance and Student Life.
The Siyaphumelela Conference is a national platform dedicated to advancing student success across the post-school education and training sector in South Africa. It brings together education leaders, policymakers, philanthropic partners, and private sector stakeholders committed to broadening access and improving opportunities for young people.
The conference further explores innovative and evidence-based approaches to enhancing student success and strengthening pathways into the workforce. This is achieved through engaging plenary and parallel sessions, featuring keynote speakers, panel discussions, and research- and practice-based presentations.

The SRC is aware of students whose NSFAS statuses remain “Registration Received,” “Funding Eligible,” or “Appeal Approved,” but who have not yet received any funding.
An NSFAS Enquiries Survey has been created to gather accurate data on affected students so that these matters can be addressed collectively, as has been done previously.
We urge only students who are affected to complete the survey to ensure that their cases are captured and attended to.

Chapter 2: Youth Month Business Breakfast Recap☕️

The SRC Deputy President, Ms Nwabisa Mageqa, delivered a Message of Support at Chapter 2 of the Youth Business Breakfast 2026, held under the theme: “Does Youth Day Still Belong to the Youth?”
In her address, she highlighted:
1. The contrast between education during the apartheid era and education today.
2. The differences between the student leadership of the 1976 generation and that of the present day.
3. The challenges faced by student leaders within universities today.
4. The growing concern of graduate unemployment while many senior citizens continue to occupy positions in the workforce.
5. The perceived lack of action by local government in addressing these pressing issues affecting young people.

You may apply for the Nedbank External Bursary Programme if you are a South African citizen who intends to pursue an undergraduate or honours degree within the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) or green economy development. Successful candidates must have a proven financial need as determined by household income.
Please note: Applicants who completed their grade 12 or senior certificate with Mathematics Literacy will not qualify.
