"Perhaps you are one of those parents who always thought: " I can't do Maths! " while you were still attending school - and now your child is suffering the same fate. You would love nothing more than to help your child, but the mathematics that children are doing at school these days, is even stranger than the mathematics you had to do! Show your child how to count and you will be told: "My teacher does it differently..." or: "That's not how we do it in class..." And then you relive all those bad experiences relating to maths over and again!" (Van Lill 2011, p.7)
