💔 HEARTBREAKING EMERGENCY: WE NEED A NEW HOME FOR BCR - AFTER 21 YEARS 💔
Dear BCR Family & Supporters, we are facing the darkest hour in our history. For 29 incredible years, Border Collie Rescue NPO 006 620 has been a sanctuary, a hope, and a home for thousands of forgotten, abandoned, and surrendered border collies. We have poured our hearts into saving this beautiful, brilliant Border Collie breed. Many of you know our current BCR team of Julie, DV, Gill & Ellie and our founding members Irene, Kay & Lynette. But today our hearts are completely shattered. We need a new home for X-
MAS.
We are at a critical crossroads, and we have never needed you more than we do right now; time is critical. The kennels our home for the last 21 years has unfortunately been sold, and the new owners will not continue with kenneling. Sadly, the private kenneling business has been eroded many people use a house sitter and do no longer use a private kennel facility resulting in the kennel having to make the incredibly difficult decision to closing the kennels and will therefore no longer be able to provide boarding facilities for Border Collie Rescue. We want to say a heartfelt thank you to our kennels, Lindy and her team for taking care of us for 21 years, being part of our journey, being our family. At the same time, we see a large intake of dogs due to many farmers taking up the refugee programme in the USA. There is such a need for the work we do but sadly, this means we will no longer take any rescue collies in till we know what comes next for us.
Please know that our current rescue dogs are safe with us right now, and we are fighting every single day, searching for a new place where they can sleep safely and feel protected and continue our legacy of BCR. But the ground beneath our paws has shifted, and we are facing the terrifying reality of being unhoused during the festive season—a time meant for warmth, safety, and family and happiness.
We are not asking for sponsorship contributions for this month for our individual dogs but for any kind contribution, donation to a possible new home and help us move. We are asking for your prayers, your thoughts, any leads who we can reach out too, who can help us move, donate transport, infrastructure, Wendy huts, shipping container as an office, make our current situation known, and your patience & kind understanding as we navigate this heartbreaking crisis. If you have advice, can contribute financially or help us move, we need you now more than ever.
Thank you for loving our rescued collies, for believing in our work, and for holding us in your hearts during this dark and painful chapter. We only hope that we can find a way back to safety so we can welcome you into a new home soon.
As it stands today, we have absolutely nowhere to go and we have to move by latest the 19th of December 2026. We are looking into options, but we need funding to make them a reality.
The thought of what this means for the rescued collies in our care, our team who love them, fight for them is a heavy devastating blow. But in rescue there is no option to give us, our collies don't give up, they have overcome so much, and neither will we. We are looking for a new home a miracle for BCR; we will give it our best shot with your help.
PLEASE, WE ARE BEGGING FOR YOUR HELP TO FIND A NEW HOME. HERE IS WHAT WE DESPERATELY NEED:
Location: We can possibly use a piece of land in Midrand, so we can stay close to our vets, but this piece of land needs kennels erected, fencing being build, a storage & an office facility being build and a cleanup and renovations, but it is close to our vets and they have space over Xmas. Traditionally the festive season is the busiest time in SA and no private kennel can help us and our 40 collies currently.
INFASTRUCTURE:
The property already has water, electricity, but we need to build a fence as security around it and put some work in it. We will have to source funding for this big move, fencing and materials to build runs, but we can use it as a starting foundation. We will try and move all our infrastructure currently to this "temporary home" which can give us breathing space till we put long term strategies into place.
SPACE FOR 40 COLLIES:
We need to accommodate our beautiful 40 rescued collies. While we prefer open runs for their well-being, we are in survival mode right now and need to find funds to erect them, gum poles, fencing, anti-jump fences, put some trees and shade netting up etc. We will publish a detailed list soon of what we need.
FOSTER HOME FOR OUR GOLDEN OLDIES:
If you want to step forward and foster one of our golden oldies, paw please do so NOW. Please note we will only foster out our golden oldies. We have no puppies in rescue.
It will be a logistical nightmare, but we will do whatever it takes to save them and not have to close down Border Collie Rescue or face the reality to have to put our dogs to sleep. Sadly, for now, we will also have to stop taking in collies till we know what will be our next. We ask for your kind understanding; this is so so hard on us.
MOVE:
Helping hand for moving, packing up and transporting our dogs, flatbeds for kennels and Wendy huts,flatbed trucks to move our current infrastructure.
