🎵 What is Intonation, and Why Does It Matter? 🎵
One of the most important skills a singer can develop is good intonation.
Intonation simply means singing in tune—hitting the correct pitch accurately and consistently. It's not just about avoiding "off notes"; it's about training your ear and your voice to work together.
Even singers with beautiful voices can struggle if their intonation isn't developed. Poor intonation can make a performance sound uncertain, while good intonation gives your singing confidence, clarity, and emotion.
So what affects intonation?
🎤 Breath support – Without steady airflow, your pitch can wobble.
🎤 Vocal technique – Straining, pushing, or singing with tension often causes notes to go sharp or flat.
🎤 Ear training – You need to hear the correct pitch before you can reproduce it accurately.
🎤 Confidence – Hesitation can cause singers to "fish" for notes instead of landing on them.
The good news? Intonation is a skill that can be improved! With the right exercises, consistent practice, and healthy vocal technique, your pitch becomes more accurate over time.
Remember: Singing in tune isn't about being naturally gifted—it's about training your ears, your voice, and your technique.
✨ Great singers don't just have great voices... they have great control.

Since when did singing become screaming? 🎤
Lately I've noticed a growing trend where many singers seem to believe that the louder they sing, the more impressive they are. Somewhere along the way, we've started confusing power with good technique.
Belting is an incredible vocal tool when it's used correctly. It adds excitement, emotion and intensity—but it's meant to be one colour on an artist's vocal palette, not the only one.
A beautiful singer isn't someone who can belt every note from start to finish. A beautiful singer is someone who has control, dynamics, expression and versatility. Sometimes the softest note in a song is far more powerful than the loudest one.
The problem is that many young singers try to imitate what they hear on social media without understanding the technique behind it. Constantly forcing the voice, pushing too much chest voice too high, or singing with excessive tension can lead to vocal fatigue, loss of range, chronic hoarseness and, over time, even vocal injuries such as nodules.
Healthy singing should never feel like a battle. The voice is made up of delicate muscles that need to be trained with the same care as any athlete trains their body. Building a strong technical foundation from a young age allows singers to belt safely when the music calls for it, while also developing beautiful head voice, mix, resonance, breath control and vocal stamina.
At Andante Music Academy, we don't just teach students to sing louder—we teach them to sing better. Because great technique gives you the freedom to sing for years to come, not just for today's performance.
Remember: singing isn't about proving how loud you can be. It's about telling a story with a healthy, expressive and well-trained voice. ❤️🎶
