Basic Important Firearm information - Street Myths
- You are allowed to carry hollow point ammunition for self defence.
- There is no limit on how many rounds you are allowed to carry.
- You are allowed to carry a round in the chamber ( Condition one).
- Section 13 - Self defence.
- Section 15 - Occasional Hunting / Sports.
- Section 16 - Dedicated Hunting / Sports.
- You are allowed to own more than one firearm, ( Handgun self defence Sec 13, and 3 other Rifles/ Shotguns Sec 15).
- You can only be in position of 200 rounds of ammunition for the license that you hold for those Sections 13, 15.
You must carry the Handgun in a holster, attached to you, that is completed covered and not exposed, this is against the law and showing your enemy that you are armed is silly.
- You don't fire warning shots, in a life threating / self defence situation you hardly have the luxury of time, or a safe direction or ammunition to waste firing warning shots.
- If you fire into the air, the bullet goes up and will come come the same speed, this bullet goes through steel roofs, Vehicle roof and other materials that we believe a bullet will stop.
- A bullet from a 9mmP Handgun travels approx 1000 FPS ( Feet per second), that is extremely fast and you cannot change this fact once the bullet has left the barrel.
- A Rifle bullet from a average hunting rifle travels at 2850 FPS, this is also very fast. Be careful out in the bush.
- Important to know and understand what condition your firearm is in, is it loaded with a round in the chamber, is the safety catch on?, what do I need to do to make that the firearm is safe and ready to fire.
- Watch where you are point the muzzle of the firearm, many people don't understand this, they point the firearm at themselves and or normally their family / friends.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. You don't need you finger to be on the trigger when loading or unloading the firearm, keep it off.
- You are more likely to have a accidently (AD) or a negligence discharge (ND) when you are you loading or unloading the firearm, this is when you need to be at your most vigilant, do your checks and make the firearm is safe for shooting, carry, transport and storage.
