Here’s what you can expect at the INHERITED Mid-Year Showcase 👀🔥supported by TotalEnergies and Oppenheimer Memorial Trust
Multi-disciplinary performances by our senior and junior classes will bring the ‘INHERITED’ theme to life, showcasing their artistic growth and creative development through music, dance, drama and visual storytelling.
In addition to their performances on stage, guests will enjoy a student-curated visual arts exhibition inspired by the Ekurhuleni heroes of the 1976 uprising. The exhibition offers an opportunity to engage with the stories of individuals who have shaped the social and cultural landscape of Ekurhuleni, while reflecting on the legacies that continue to influence us today.
We are also excited to welcome the Ubuntu Jazz Collective, the flagship youth jazz ensemble of the Morris Isaacson Centre for Music
Rooted in the philosophy of Ubuntu — “I am because we are” — the ensemble brings together young musicians from diverse backgrounds and celebrates the rich traditions of South African jazz alongside contemporary influences.
Together, these performances and exhibitions invite audiences to consider what we inherit, what we preserve and what we choose to pass on to future generations.
Tickets are still available for only R80. WhatsApp 066 399 6012 to secure yours.
We cannot wait to see you all there!

We’re sharing some snippets of our cohort of Ekurhuleni creatives engaging with important industry spaces, mentors and facilitators who helped make the creative economy more visible, practical and reachable.
Through studio visits, exhibitions, product reviews, market-readiness sessions and professional practice workshops, sharpened their ideas, strengthened their confidence and began translating their creative work into clearer enterprise pathways.
A heartfelt thank you to the Entrepreneurship Development Trust for helping make this learning journey possible, and to all our industry partners and facilitators for opening their knowledge, networks and working environments to the Uvuko 2026 cohort.

A stage where stories continue to educate, challenge, and inspire. ✨
We recently hosted the My Children! My Africa! at the Sibikwa Theatre, presented by Ukukhanya Edu-Tainment for matric learners from Lesiba Secondary School and Ephes Mamkeli Secondary School as part of their English setwork studies.
Written by Athol Fugard, this poignant South African classic continues to resonate with young audiences through its exploration of education, inequality, youth and the pursuit of change. Bringing prescribed literature to life through live performance creates a deeper and more meaningful connection for learners — transforming the classroom experience into something immediate, emotional and unforgettable.
We look forward to housing more productions that contribute to an enriching learning experience for learners.
Performance by:
Mr M: Thulani Stukie Mtsweni
Thami: Gift Mathibedi
Isabel: Melane Hamman
This past weekend, the Sibikwa Arts Academy proudly joined in the celebrations for Africa Day through two gatherings that honoured heritage, artistic exchange and the power of performance.
Our first stop was at the ‘Emasisweni’ Africa Day festival hosted at the Morris Isaacson Centre for Music where our young artists shared the stage alongside the Luthando Arts Academy, Soweto Theatre and the Morgan State University choir.
Second stop was at the Cradle of Humankind for the Sounds of Origin Cultural Exchange and Intergenerational Dialogue hosted by the National Heritage Council where our marimba ensemble offered a heartfelt jam session to close the festivities.
We would like to extend our gratitude to our hosts for providing a platform for African expression and their warm hospitality. Happy Africa Day! 🌍✨

INHERITED - Sibikwa Arts Academy Mid- Year Showcase
What does it mean to inherit?
To inherit is to receive more than what is tangible. It is to carry memory, history, resilience, and the responsibility to shape what comes next.
In this Project Manager’s note, ‘what does it mean to inherit?’, we reflect on the ideas and questions that inspired ‘INHERITED’, Sibikwa Arts Academy’s 2026 Mid-Year showcase.
As we look forward to youth month and commemorate 50 years since the 1976 uprising, this reflection considers the legacies passed from one generation to the next and how young people continue to transform them through creativity, courage, and expression.
Read the full article on our website here: https://www.sibikwa.co.za/what-does-it-mean-to-inherit/ and witness this inheritance come alive on stage made possible by our wonderful funders TotalEnergies and the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust.
