The final day of the UWC Mental Health & Well-Being Colloquium 2026 centred on Practitioner Well-Being, Restoration and Reflective Practice, providing delegates with an opportunity to pause, reflect, and reconnect.
The programme featured parallel practitioner experiences, including โThe Hatchet Woman Meets Her Match: Reflections on Self-Compassion and Art-Based Interventions in the Prevention and Treatment of Burnoutโ by An-Maree Nel, alongside the immersive Orisons Wellness Experience, which focused on practitioner wellness and restoration.
Delegates also engaged in a session presented by the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) on mental health awareness and support services, before participating in the โHolding the Helpers: Practitioner Reflection Circle,โ creating a shared space for reflection, connection, and collective learning.
The colloquium concluded with a formal closing ceremony, celebrating three days of meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and a shared commitment to building sustainable ecosystems of care within higher education.

The UWC Mental Health and Well-Being Colloquium 2026 featured an exceptional lineup of keynote speakers who brought diverse perspectives on the future of mental health, care, and higher education.
๐น Prof. Shose Kessi โ Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cape Town, presented โDecoloniality, Care and Institutional Transformation in Higher Education,โ encouraging delegates to reimagine institutions through inclusive, equitable, and transformative approaches to care.
๐น Ramakant Vempati โ Co-founder of Wysa, an AI-enabled digital self-help and mental health coaching platform, presented โAI, Innovation and Scalable Mental Health Support,โ highlighting how technology can expand access to mental health services while complementing human-centred care.
๐น Dr Kerry Louw โ Consultation Liaison Psychiatrist and Senior Lecturer at Stellenbosch University, presented โPractitioner Well-Being, Complexity and Systems of Mental Health Care,โ offering valuable insights into supporting those who provide care within increasingly complex higher education environments.
Together, these keynote sessions sparked meaningful conversations, inspired fresh thinking, and reinforced the collective responsibility of building sustainable ecosystems of care.

The programme featured a thought-provoking keynote on practitioner well-being and systems of mental health care, followed by engaging parallel sessions exploring student support, neurodiversity, institutional practice, resilience, and mental health interventions.
Throughout the day, delegates exchanged ideas, strengthened professional networks, and reflected on practical approaches to building sustainable ecosystems of care within higher education. The day concluded with a collective reflection, reinforcing the importance of supporting both students and the practitioners who work alongside them.
