Our Grade One girls enjoyed a heartwarming ‘Generation’s Breakfast’, celebrating the special bond between three generations. Grandparents, parents, and daughters came together for a memorable morning filled with laughter, song, and cherished moments. Adding to the fun, each family wore a matching accessory that symbolised their unique connection. It was a beautiful morning celebrating family, love, and the values passed from one generation to the next.
Mrs Bev van Niekerk, our Junior School Head, reminded us that, “Education lives in our homes, in our conversations, and in the values passed from one generation to the next. Families are the first teachers.”
She reiterated that it is within families that children learn resilience, respect, curiosity, and a sense of identity.
“When knowledge, stories, and experiences are shared across generations, education becomes richer and more meaningful. A grandparent’s wisdom, a parent’s guidance, and a child’s questions all form part of a continuous cycle of learning,” Mrs van Niekerk added.
Her many years in education and in leadership has given Mrs van Niekerk a wise outlook, and she understands that this intergenerational approach to education is especially important in a world that is changing rapidly. She gave her gratitude to the many parents and grandparents who joined us, saying that while schools provide structure and knowledge, families provide context and belonging; and together, they shape not only educated individuals, but grounded and compassionate future citizens.💙❌💙
