“Every day away from Africa is one day closer to going back.”

For those who have journeyed with Build the Future, returning means more than visiting a place.

It means seeing the children whose smiles you still remember, reconnecting with the communities that welcomed you, and continuing work that truly matters.

You may arrive hoping to make a difference—but Africa and its people leave an even greater mark on you.

There is always more work to do, more joy to share and another chapter waiting to be written.

Maybe it’s time to come back. ❤️🌍

Transformation is not simply about changing how a space looks. It is about changing what becomes possible within that space.

When we first saw the play area at Grow Buddies in Khayelitsha, run by Principal Nancy, it was bare, tired and almost forgotten. Today, it is alive with colour, laughter, movement and imagination—a safe and welcoming place where children can play, explore and simply enjoy being children.

This is why we do what we do at Build the Future.

We listen. We build relationships. We identify what is needed—and then we bring the right people and organisations together to turn possibility into meaningful, lasting change.

A heartfelt thank you to Play.co.za, a proudly South African company, for sponsoring the incredible jungle gym at the heart of this space. Thank you also to Crossroads for sponsoring the AstroTurf, helping transform a hard, empty area into a beautiful playground the children can enjoy every day.

And to everyone who gave their time and energy to paint, build and bring this vision to life—thank you. True partnership is about far more than funding. It is about showing up, working together and believing that every child deserves a space where they can learn, play and thrive.

The photographs show a remarkable before and after—but the real transformation is in the joy on the children’s faces and everything that will now become possible here.

As this incredible week begins to draw to a close, I’m reminded that the greatest impact is rarely found in the buildings themselves—it’s found in the people.🌈

This week has been filled with teamwork, laughter, hard work, and a shared purpose. From our teacher training sessions to the ongoing work at Waterfall School, it’s been inspiring to watch people from different backgrounds come together to serve with such enthusiasm and generosity.☀️

To every volunteer, teacher, supporter, and member of the Crossroads team: thank you. Your willingness to give your time, your energy, and your hearts is creating opportunities that will continue to shape lives long after this week is over.🇺🇸🇿🇦

Seeing new friendships formed, classrooms improved, teachers encouraged, and children filled with hope has been a wonderful reminder of what can happen when people choose to make a difference together.

We are deeply grateful for every person who has been part of this journey. Together, we are building more than schools—we are building hope, opportunity, and a brighter future.✌🏻

The week got off to an amazing start with a wonderful photo in front of the iconic Shaka statue at King Shaka International Airport on Sunday. From there, we spent a special morning with the children from Small Steps Surfing, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

On Sunday evening, we gathered to reflect on the day and hear from the group leader, Nate, who shared highlights and encouragement for the week, including a fun get to know each other game.

Today, we’ve been blessed with fantastic weather as the team gets to work. Our teaching group is busy investing in educators, while the construction team and other volunteers are hard at work at our Waterfall School, helping to make a lasting difference.

There’s an incredible sense of energy, purpose, and excitement all around. We’re looking forward to an amazing week of serving together, building relationships, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of the children and communities we have the privilege of working with.
