This Summer has undoubtedly been too hot to handle at times, so we at Little Star are truly excited for the Autumnal Equinox happening on Friday! 🍂

As the Sun crosses the equator, days will begin to cool and shorten so that day and night are both roughly 12 hours long! This much needed break from the extreme heat we've faced in February will last about 90 days.

The full moon closest to the autumnal equinox is known as the Harvest Moon. This year's Harvest Moon was on the 3rd of March.

The Autumnal Equinox is a time for festivals worldwide, such as the Japanese tradition of Higan, which commemorates loved ones. In China and Vietnam, it is celebrated with the Moon Festival and moon cakes! Here in South Africa, it marks the preparations for Easter (even though stores seem to prepare in Feb!)🐇

Meet Janine Purcell, our experienced Vice Principal and Grade R Teacher

With over 30 years of dedication to early childhood education, Janine has not only raised 4 children of her own but has also guided hundreds of little ones to success. One of her former students is currently studying accounting and another studied to be a doctor in Ukraine during the conflict of 2022, and many more have gone on to excel in other fields!

Janine's unique storytelling ability transports children to magical realms, sparking imagination and curiosity. She specialises in making maths interactive and fun, laying a strong foundation for future success.

Last week, our Little Star family came together to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas through our Nativity Play and Christmas Concert. 🎄🎅️✨ What a joyful morning we had! 🌟 From the tiniest angels fluttering their wings to our brave little shepherds, the kings, and the sweetest Mary and Joseph you ever did see, every child shone brightly as they retold the greatest story ever told: the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. 🙏

Our little stars shone bright as they retold the story of love, kindness, and joy that defines this special season. We're so proud of our children for their hard work and dedication. 🙌 Through stories, songs, and performances, we aim to instill in them the values of compassion, empathy, and kindness that Christmas embodies. ❤️

A huge thank you to all our dedicated teachers, assistants, and especially to our wonderful children who brought the Christmas story to life with such innocence and wonder. And thank you, Lord, for the precious gift of these little ones in our care. 🎁
