The sun came out just in time for a Graduation Day that was an exceptionally heartfelt and grateful celebration. The past months have been challenging and tough for Quest in many respects, but this day was an opportunity to take stock of all that has been gained and granted and be thankful. The day began with the muddy roads drying sufficiently to allow considerable numbers to pour into the Kaba and be welcomed with a hearty tea at the Musto home. Quest guys put on a display of fitness tests on the tennis court followed by a competitive assault course demo which stretched participants’ lungs and tenacity to their limits. Well done Questers and parents for the long trek!
The ceremony opened with thanks to God and prayer for the Ainslie family whose loss we keenly feel. Jim spoke well about Taw Anslie and our great friend Alistair Wyrley- Birch and the lessons we should draw from their lives: two men cut off in their youth, both youngsters marked by rare selflessness, big-heartedness and passion to live looking outwards with humour and purpose. Eight Questers delivered memorable speeches and recitals – sometimes humorous and entertaining as well as profound and philosophical. Graduation ended on a high note with Tannie Veronica’s lunch followed by her much loved chocolate brownies and malva pudding.
A big shout-out to VOLO in Kenton-on- Sea who generously provided us with the Beach Shack for the memorable Grad After-Party. With popular and loved Eastern Cape musician Gary Ford on the guitar, and Donovan’s sheep-on-the-spit, it was a party of note for parents, sons and staff. Gary generously lent his instruments to the talented Stucken cousins who lit up the Quest boys with a hearty sing-along.
What remains as we look back on Thursday was the gratitude and love felt so strongly by the guys for their time at Quest!
