One of the hardest things about teaching isn’t knowing what each child needs.
It’s having enough time to give every child what they need.
When you have 30 (40?! 50?!) children in front of you, all with different strengths, gaps, abilities and learning speeds, you can differentiate as much as possible — but you’re still one teacher.
That’s why I don’t believe supplementary learning should be seen as a replacement for school or a reflection of poor teaching.
Sometimes, it’s simply another layer of support.
A place where a child can slow down, repeat something they haven’t mastered, or move ahead when they’re ready — at their own pace.
Teachers are doing an incredibly difficult job. ❤️

This is Katy from Kumon here to tell you — Your child is not bad at maths. ❤️
And they don’t have to learn at exactly the same pace as everyone else.
Some children grasp a new concept after a few repetitions. Others need more time and more practice before it becomes comfortable.
That doesn’t mean they’re behind.
In the early years, giving a child the right amount of repetition for THEM can make all the difference.
When they have enough practice to really master a skill, they become more fluent, more independent and, importantly, more confident. 🌱
Learning isn’t one-size-fits-all. Sometimes the best thing we can give a child is the time they need to master something properly.

Attention isn’t fixed—it grows with practice.
We often expect children to concentrate for long periods, but concentration develops over time.
Simple daily activities like reading together, puzzles, colouring, building with blocks or Lego, and playing board games all help children learn to focus for longer.
The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s giving their brain regular opportunities to practise paying attention.
Just a little every day can make a huge difference. 🌱
One thing I never want parents to wonder is whether their child is safe with us.
That’s why every member of our team completes fingerprint screening as part of South Africa’s Child Protection requirements.
It’s not the most exciting part of the job—but it’s one of the most important.
Creating a place where children can learn, grow and feel safe starts long before they open a worksheet.

Small steps every day lead to big achievements. 💙
One of my favourite moments every class day is simply standing back and watching.
A room full of children, all working at their own level. Some confidently completing work on their own. Others getting a quick nudge from one of our assistants. A smile here. A question there. A breakthrough a few minutes later.
From the outside it might just look like children doing worksheets.
But behind each page is a child building concentration, independence, resilience and confidence.
That’s what I love most about our centre.
Every child is seen.
Every child is encouraged.
Every child is challenged at the level that’s right for them.
It’s a privilege to watch that happen every day. ❤️
