Reading skills is the ability of an individual to read, understand and interpret written words.
The possession of good reading skills will help a child to assimilate written work within a short period while reading.
It is important that a learner uses strategies when reading to build understanding.
Reading aloud is a great way to improve fluency, pronunciation, rhythm and stress.

Basic reading skills:

1 Decoding: sounding out the words is the first step.

2 Vocabulary: The more you read the more you improve your vocabulary. Then you are able to recall these words when you see them again.

3 Fluency: This improves along with comprehension. Too many learners struggle with reading, which affects all their subjects at school. If a child can read, it opens a whole new world of knowledge to him/her. On the other hand, I have seen Grade 7 learners being humiliated because they struggle to read a Grade 1 book!!!

Do not let your child be that child that cannot read!
