Zen Bei Butoku Kai Origin:
Richard Kim became a member of the original Dai Nippon Butoku Kai (DNBK) in Kyoto, Japan, in 1939. After the organization was banned by Allied forces following World War II, it was later revived as a private organization under Ono Kumao. As a close friend of Ono, Richard Kim was asked in 1959 to establish the DNBK outside of Japan, leading to the founding of the Zen Bei Butoku Kai in San Francisco.
