It's World Sea Turtle Week!
North Carolina beaches are vital to the survival of sea turtles. Three out of the seven sea turtle species nest along our coastline.
During nesting season, be sure to turn out exterior lights and close the blinds if you're staying on the beach to help the turtles navigate back to the sea. Fill in holes in the sand and pick up any trash or fishing line you may find. These can trap turtles or block their path.
All sea turtle species in the U.S. are protected by Federal law, so if you find a nesting turtle, hatchling, or a nest - stand back and leave it be.

This article points out some very important facts. One not mentioned in this article is that we have staff members qualified to perform this service.
Oxygen cleaning of scuba equipment requires a well-planned, tested, and effective procedure consisting of seven essential steps.
1️⃣ Initial inspection to determine whether it can be cleaned and how
2️⃣ Initial mechanical cleaning to remove any visible dirt or contamination, followed by degreasing using a cleaning agent suitable for oxygen service
3️⃣ Flush using clean, potable water to remove all cleaning agent residue.
4️⃣ Dry using oxygen compatible air or other gas, which must be oil-free.
5️⃣ Final inspection for any remaining surface contamination, which can include any or all of the following: Use a bright white or UV light in a darkened inspection area, use a fine water spray on the components and look for instant beading, or wipe the cleaned area with a clean, lint-free, white cloth and inspect the cloth with a white or UV light (this works well for cavities and hard-to-view surfaces)
6️⃣ Preserve the cleaning by immediately packaging or otherwise protecting the components from contamination.
7️⃣ Document the process in writing, and issue documentation for each item cleaned with a certificate, report, or sticker recording the technician, date, cleaning agents, and inspection methods.
Only properly trained, competent technicians should perform oxygen cleaning. Some industries require laboratory validation of cleanliness, but this is not usually the case in the diving industry, as a well-designed process will effectively remove any readily flammable contaminants.
*No amount of cleaning and inspection can guarantee completely safe equipment. Proper oxygen cleaning can help ensure there is no combustible fuel and increase confidence in your safety.

It was a long day and a very late night arrival to close out a great week of diving, but all the dive staff and their gear made it back home. We’ll share a dive count and some photos once we get a couple days to recover and debrief. In the mean time, enjoy the sunrise from our last morning in Cozumel.

It’s a beautiful morning for our last day of boat diving in Cozumel! Our instructors are up early preparing for the day. They definitely need more than one cup of coffee this morning after an amazing but very long day of diving yesterday.
