In the BTS-episode #9 (13th March) I (David) showed a step-by-step guide to how to light the official product portrait image of the Profoto D2, and promised a "price from The Bunker" to the best attempt. And now we have an attempt by member Andreas Hammar, and it's a really creative contribution - instead of a D2, he shot a Godox with the Profoto lighting! :)

This is Andreas description:
------
I found the follow-along-shoot of the D2 an intriguing idea, and did my own take on it. I had two problems though - I had no D2, and the flash I had wasn’t as beautiful. I also flipped the gradient side to the right.

- The background halo-light was actually the trickiest one. My reflectors didn’t give the right size of the light pattern, so I ended up using a snoot that gave me the result I wanted.

- The softbox from above was quite straight forward. No issues there.

- The gradual kicker on the right side gave me a 20 minutes challenge - to find what I could use instead of a flag. Ended up using a piece of fabric that I folded several times, and stuck it directly to the softbox burdock.

- The last light (instead of the Probox) I tried different DIY-tricks with flashes, but ended up using my small LED-light (manfrotto Lumie 8). I put it really close, maxed out the power and hoped to get enough light… And it did!

Overall, I really really enjoyed this and learned a lot in the process! Thank you guys for a fun Saturday morning in the studio! Due to lack of equipment, I had to improvise and when looking at the images at home on the computer I realise I missed a big opportunity on that red front plastic! Some light love and reflections there could create magic… Next time!

Cheers, Andreas

Anyone else wants to give it a go, or should I just proclaim Andreas the Winner of the Bunker Price for nailing that side-gradient and being creative for thinking outside the box using a Godox instead of a D2? :)
