St. Andrew’s International Model United Nations (SAIMUN) 2026 Conference From 13/02-16/02 students of took part in Ireland’s largest MUN conference, held annually at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dublin. The aim of the conference is to provide a platform for students to engage in diplomacy and international relations by writing, presenting and debating resolutions as well as participating in lobbying. ️With this marking the 37th session of the event, the conference is now host to 400 students from 35 different schools who travelled to Dublin from 20 different countries. These include Turkey, the UAE, the USA, Greece, Norway, the UK, Saudi Arabia & Ireland. Starting at around 8:30 a.m., students participated in committee sessions until 12:30 p.m., with additional time being available after lunch.In total, 27 topics were covered across seven committees. These included:* Disarmament & Peacebuilding* The Environmental Impact of Nuclear Power* Global Trade* PMC’s and Mercenaries / Instability* Social Media and Fake News* The Use of AI* Genetic Engineering* and more Every delegation represented a different country, with our school taking the place of Kenya. The Cork Educate Together delegation wrote resolutions on topics such as the Question of Forced Displacement due to Climate Change and the Status of Climate Refugees. This resolution in the SOCHUM (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee) advanced to debate in the General Assembly on Monday where it was passionately discussed by proponents and opponents. On Monday, a resolution booklet containing all approved resolutions was published. SAIMUN is more than an ordinary conference. It is a unique opportunity for students to learn more about global politics, and the way organisations such as the UN operate. The students also develop skills like confidence, critical thinking & the ability to speak up, all of which will last far beyond the committee room.
