*Lidice Shall Live – A Workers' Movement To Rebuild A Village* chronicles the British response to the destruction of the Czech village of Lidice by N**i forces on 10 June 1942.
Significant urban centres—such as Stoke-on-Trent, Derby, Coventry, Nottingham, and Birmingham—organised comprehensive initiatives to defy Adolf Hi**er’s proclamation that “Lidice Should Die Forever,” thereby ensuring his objective was not achieved.
The book provides an in-depth examination of the movement’s origins within the British coalfields, identifies key organisers, and outlines its progression, pinnacle, and eventual resolution. It emphasises the collective efforts of workers who supported a community abroad, demonstrating both communal solidarity and civic engagement.
Scheduled for online publication on 6 September, this release coincides with the 83rd anniversary of the founding of the Lidice Shall Live campaign at Victoria Hall, Hanley.

The largest city within the Warwickshire Miners’ Federation Coalfield, was the first to accept the invitation to join the national Lidice Shall Live campaign. Its citizens demonstrated complete empathy for the struggle of the Czech people as they inaugurated the second Lidice Shall Live committee by having a Lidice Week. It was a popular formula which was to be adopted by other Midlands cities.
