Killegland Graveyard

For the history, cultural and heritage buffs amongst us, Ashbourne Tidy Towns and our friends in the Ashbourne Historical Society have just finished a beautiful collaborative restoration project with the old gate into the graveyard.
The gate was rusted and had a piece missing. It was really becoming corroded and we were worried about the future integrity of this lovely feature.
We employed the services of a company that restored the old RIC gates that are now on display in the from of Ashbourne Garda station to come to the rescue.
Killegland graveyard dates back to 1200AD and we will be commemorating the 300th year of the death of Dr. Michael Plunkett who is buried on the site in Aug. 2027.
See our before and after pics.

Some more collaboration with Tesco today where the tree pots were planted up to help prevent littering problem.
Thanks to all that helped out and to the public for their lovely complements.
We also planed up around the Millennium park and Battle of Ashbourne monument!
Help and donations always appreciated.

Volunteers wanted!
Tomorrow morning Ashbourne Tidy Towns are doing the Annual River Broadmeadow clean up.
We will be picking litter and removing rubbish from the river bed and along the river banks. 🦆
Starting at 10am and continuing until 2pm. If you can make the whole 4 hours or just do an hour, all help is really appreciated.
We hope to plant a mix native Irish trees varieties including birch, crab apple, alder and oak. 🌳
Come along and join the team. This is a family friendly event. Only experienced people will be entering the waterway. River levels are moderate but accessible. 😎
Meeting at the Ashbourne Playground

This is a family friendly event with only experienced people entering the river with proper health & safety equipment.

We are also asking resident associations to join us on the day for An Tasice National Spring clean - organise a litter pick in your estate and help us to ‘Keep Ashbourne Beautiful”

This morning, some of our Tidy Town volunteers were out repainting over the graffiti that appeared on our long-awaited skate park just a few days ago 🛹✨

We’ve all been so excited for this space, and now it’s here — it belongs to all of us. We’d really love to keep it looking new and clean for everyone to enjoy.

So just a quick (slightly paint-covered 😄) reminder: please help keep it tidy, use the bins and take care of what we have.
Let’s keep the park paint-free and welcoming for everyone.
