Thank you Fries Memorial Moravian Church!

Fries is blessed to support Winston-Salem Freedom Schools, a program that Pastor Russ May of Anthony’s Plot helped create and organize. This summer, Freedom Schools served more than 650 students across ten sites throughout Winston-Salem, creating meaningful opportunities for learning, growth, leadership, and community. We are grateful for the opportunity to invest in the education, well-being, and future of children and youth in our community.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom and a reminder that freedom has always required collective action.

Today, we honor the generations who fought for liberation, protected family and community, and imagined futures beyond bo***ge. We also recognize that the work of freedom continues wherever children and families are denied safety, dignity, opportunity, or joy.

At CDF, we mark Juneteenth by telling the truth about our history and continuing the work to build a country where Black children and families can live fully, freely, and joyfully.

🇺🇸 As part of the America250 celebration, the City of Winston-Salem and the Forsyth County Historic Resources Commission invite you to the unveiling of the latest addition to the North Carolina Civil Rights Trail.

Join us on Sat. May 30, 2026, at 3 p.m. at the YWCA Best Choice Learning Center (1031 Highland Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC).

The City of Winston-Salem joins communities across the state to mark sites critical to the Civil Rights Movement. This historic marker will commemorate the 1914 State Supreme Court decision in State v. Darnell, a landmark ruling that curtailed cities’ power to enforce residential segregation. The marker is provided by the NC African American Heritage Commission, with support from the NC Office of Archives & History, Visit NC, and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.
