Strengthening Civil Society: Wikimedia and Democracy!
Join this online event on 14 June to explore Wikimedia UK's research around democracy, information literacy, and Wikimedia.
Understand how improving information literacy skills contributes to Wikimedia UK’s vision of a more tolerant, informed and democratic society. Does the work increase participants’ information literacy, and does this, in turn, lead to a more engaged civil society? Wikimedia UK has reviewed the current understanding and frameworks in the intersection of literacies, civic engagement and democratic participation to see how information literacy has been found to support civic engagement.

The Wikimedia Movement is one of the few places on the internet where knowledge is collaboratively constructed with reliability and verifiability of information at the core. The goal is to ensure the sum of all human knowledge is free, and that anyone who wants to can participate. When people understand how Wikipedia works, it builds trust and helps them understand how to read critically and contribute consciously.
Earlier this year we funded 6 "Reading Wikipedia" certified trainers to implement the program.
Today as we continue to celebrate , we invite you to learn more about these programs! Wikimedia, UNESCO, and the Kwara State Government united to improve media literacy among teachers in Nigeria.
