Madison-Ridgeland Academy is proud to announce the retirement of Josh Hubbardโs No. 12 jersey Friday, September 4, 2026, marking the first time in school history that an MRA basketball player will receive this prestigious honor.
The jersey retirement ceremony will take place at halftime of the MRA vs. Hartfield Academy football game as the Patriot community gathers to celebrate the legacy of one of the greatest athletes to ever wear the red and navy.
For five seasons, Josh Hubbard represented everything it means to be an MRA Patriot. As a five-year varsity starter, Hubbard rewrote the MRA Basketball record book, elevated the program to new heights, and established a standard of excellence that will inspire generations of Patriot student-athletes.
โJosh was a special player, but what Iโll remember most is the person he was. Getting to coach him, watch him grow, and see him accomplish things most players only dream about was a privilege. His jersey belongs in the rafters, but more importantly, Joshโs impact will always be a part of MRA basketball,โ said former MRA Basketball Head Coach Richard Duease.
Hubbard finished his historic high school career as the all-time leading scorer in Mississippi high school basketball history, amassing 4,367 career points; a record that places him among the most prolific scorers in the history of the sport. His ability to score at every level, his elite competitiveness, and his leadership helped make him one of the most dominant players in Mississippi basketball history.
During his senior season, Hubbard averaged 27.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, leading the Patriots to a 34-8 record and the MAIS Class 6A State Championship. His outstanding season earned him one of the highest honors in high school athletics as he was named the 2023 Mississippi Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year, becoming the first player from the MAIS to receive the award.
