NBEA is saddened to share the passing of Marilyn L. Satterwhite, a lifelong business educator, nationally recognized leader, and honored founder of Danville Area Community College. Marilyn passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 83.

Marilyn devoted nearly four decades to teaching and advancing business education. She was instrumental in building DACC’s Business Division, developing innovative vocational and technical programs, and pioneering early uses of instructional technology and distance learning. A prolific author, she co-authored 12 influential business communication and office reference textbooks and was a sought-after national speaker.

Her impact extended well beyond the classroom through her leadership and service to professional organizations, including the National Business Education Association, where she was honored as Postsecondary Teacher of the Year in 1992. She received numerous additional awards recognizing her excellence, innovation, and dedication to students.

Marilyn believed deeply in the power of teaching, once saying, “The classroom is where the action is.” Her legacy lives on through the countless students, educators, and institutions she shaped throughout her remarkable career.
