35% of family child care educators are already operating at a loss, according to NAFCC's latest survey.

Last week, it became harder for them as the federal government removed the requirement for states to pay based on enrollment, shifting to attendance-based payment.

This change means:

▪️ Providers lose income for every day a child is absent, increasing financial risk for home-based educators who already cover their own rent, utilities, and supplies.

▪️ Attendance-based payment not only reduces their income but also threatens their ability to stay in business.

Strong early childhood systems rely on the stability of these providers. When home-based educators struggle, families and communities suffer.
