Jack D. Lampros, a pillar of support to Weber State University and the broader community, died on Aug. 7 at 99 years old.
The WSU community remembers him, alongside his wife, Betty Jean Lampros, for his contributions to infrastructure, athletics, scholarships, and more.
In retirement, he strengthened the community through his work as founder and chairman of the Stewart Education Foundation, which earned the WSU President’s Award at the 2019 WSU Salutes celebration. The foundation has administered millions of dollars in gifts and grants that support WSU.
Lampros was a champion for Weber State’s Department of History, helping fund students’ education and launching the annual Lampros Lecture series, which brings renowned speakers to WSU to highlight research and stories from the Civil War era. This year, the 25th anniversary of the Lampros Lectures will be held Oct. 19.
“Jack was the history department’s best friend and greatest patron,” said Branden Little, professor in the history department. “Jack loved Weber State’s history majors and shared with them stories of his childhood in the Great Depression and his service in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War.”
