The allows for the recycling of lactic acid. Lactate is sent to the liver via the bloodstream, where it becomes pyruvate then glucose. However, this process costs 6 ATP so it can't continue forever

Lactic Acid and Alcoholic Fermentation both take place in the cytoplasm. Lactic Acid Fermentation gives us cheese, yogurt and kimchi, as well as the lovely burning when you exercise hard. Alcoholic fermentation gives us bread, wine, beer and more!

There are two major types of fermentation; lactic acid and alcoholic. Both of them allow for the oxidation of NADH back into the NAD+ needed to run .

Glycolysis has 2 phases; the investment phase and the payoff phase. In the investment phase, we spend 2 ATP in order to break up a molecule of glucose. In the payoff phase, we recharge 4 molecules of ATP, produce 2 NADH and 2 molecules of pyruvate.

Glycolysis breaks down glucose or other sugars into pyruvate. The pyruvate can be used for aerobic respiration, anaerobic respiration, lactic acid fermentation, or alcoholic fermentation.
