This month’s Artist Spotlight features Badri Narayan, an Indian artist whose paintings found beauty in the stories, people, and everyday Indian life. 🌻

Drawing from mythology, folklore, and lived experience, his work reminds us that inspiration doesn’t always come from extraordinary places and that the most meaningful stories are the ones we already carry with us.

Through our curriculum, students are introduced to artists from different practices, time periods, and contexts, giving them the opportunity to discover new ways of seeing and creating. Inspired by Badri Narayan’s work, students reflected on what family means to them through portrait-making, making artworks rooted in their own experiences.

These roles sit at the heart of how we think about expanding access to meaningful visual arts learning experiences for children. From designing curriculum and learning resources to building partnerships and strengthening the broader ecosystem around arts education, both roles will play a key part in shaping the next phase of our work.

Over the past few months, our team has been on ground in Meghalaya, meeting with stakeholders, visiting schools, and understanding the diverse contexts in which children learn across the state.

Meghalaya is home to vibrant communities and rich traditions of storytelling, craft, music, and cultural expression. At the same time, schools operate across varied geographies and realities, making it important that learning experiences are designed with context in mind.🌈

These conversations and visits have helped shape our thinking as we begin this partnership with the Directorate of School Education & Literacy, Meghalaya.

Our long-term vision is to ensure that every child in Meghalaya has access to developmentally appropriate, culturally grounded, and joyful learning experiences that strengthen both academic and socio-emotional growth.

Creating more space for creativity and expression in Meghalaya’s classrooms. 🌻

We’re honoured to begin a new chapter in Meghalaya through a partnership with the Directorate of School Education & Literacy aimed at strengthening arts-integrated learning across PM SHRI schools in the state.

PM SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) schools are model schools established to demonstrate the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 on the ground.🌈

Over the next academic year, we will work with these schools across Meghalaya to design and implement a contextualised visual arts curriculum for students in Grades 1-8, grounded in the state’s rich cultural context and aligned with the vision of NEP 2020.
This partnership goes beyond curriculum delivery. It represents a systems-level approach to integrating creativity, expression, and visual arts into school education by equipping educators with the tools and support needed to facilitate these experiences sustainably within classrooms.

We are grateful to Mr. Banteilang J. Kharshandi, Director of School Education & Literacy, Meghalaya, and the Directorate for their trust and collaboration.

Together, we look forward to building models of arts education that are locally rooted, educator-led, and scalable across the public education system.🎨
