Blue Future: Sustainable Living with Water Literacy Blue Future: Gozo College Ninu Cremona Secondary School Awarded Erasmus+ Funding for Water Literacy Project

Gozo College Ninu Cremona Secondary School has recently secured Erasmus+ funding for an innovative new initiative titled “Blue Future: Sustainable Living with Water Literacy.”
This project aims to empower young people with the knowledge and skills needed to understand, protect, and use water resources responsibly.

Rooted in the European Union’s Sustainable Water Policy, the project supports EU-wide efforts to safeguard water resources through effective management and sustainable use. Key priorities of the policy include improving water quality, ensuring integrated and sustainable water-resource management, restoring ecosystems, increasing water-use efficiency, and addressing the impacts of climate change.

Aligned with these priorities are the objectives of the EU’s Ocean Mission, designed to support the Sustainable Development Goals. These objectives focus on safeguarding marine life, reducing pollution, promoting sustainable fishing practices, managing water and ocean resources more effectively, mitigating climate change, and raising public awareness about the essential role water and oceans play in sustaining life.

As globalization accelerates advancements in technology, industry, agriculture, and culture, environmental pressures have also intensified—particularly pollution. This growing challenge highlights the critical role educational institutions must play in advocating for environmental responsibility and providing students with the tools to take meaningful action.

The Blue Future project responds to this need by placing water literacy at its core. Bringing together participating schools from Spain, Croatia, and Turkey, its primary aim is to raise awareness among secondary school students about water pollution and the importance of sustainable water use. The project also seeks to inspire a deeper understanding of environmental issues and climate change among both students and teachers in participating schools, while also extending its reach to local communities.

Through student-centered workshops, observation activities, and hands-on learning experiences grounded in scientific methods, participants will explore real-world water issues and develop practical skills in environmental stewardship. These activities are designed not only to educate but also to engage students actively in problem-solving and inquiry-based learning.

By fostering environmentally conscious attitudes and equipping young people with essential knowledge, the Blue Future project aims to build a generation that values and protects one of our planet’s most critical resources—water.

Exceptional Performance by Our Students During the Bebras Challenge

This year’s edition of the Bebras Challenge brought great pride to our school as we received exceptional news about the remarkable achievements of four of our students. The Bebras Challenge, an international initiative that promotes computational thinking and problem‑solving skills, drew 3500 participants from across Malta and Gozo this year. Standing out in such a competitive environment is a truly impressive accomplishment.

On 23rd March 2026, a special recognition ceremony was held to honour students who achieved outstanding results. During this event, our four representatives were awarded certificates for excelling among all participants in their category, demonstrating not only strong analytical and logical reasoning abilities but also commitment, perseverance, and enthusiasm for digital literacy.

In their respective age group, the results were as follows:
Jake Attard placed 3rd,
Michael Vincenzo Timmermans placed 4th,
Daniel Anthony Vella placed 5th, and
Nathan Vella placed 6th.

Their exceptional rankings highlight the high level of competence and preparation shown by our students, who have consistently embraced opportunities to develop their computational skills. These achievements also reflect the dedication of our educators, who continue to guide and motivate learners to reach their fullest potential.

The awards were presented during a formal ceremony held at the Faculty of ICT at the University of Malta, where students and educators gathered to celebrate academic excellence and innovation in computing. The event served as an inspiring reminder of the importance of nurturing digital skills in today’s rapidly evolving technological world.

We are incredibly proud of our students’ accomplishments and look forward to seeing them continue to excel in future challenges. Their success is a testament to their hard work, curiosity, and passion for learning.

Our school band, made up of students from Gozo College Agius De Soldanis Middle School and Ninu Cremona Secondary School, under the direction of Mro. Mark Gauci, took part in the event “Ħallu t-Tfal Jiġu Għandi.”

The band performed various religious pieces as the procession made its way out from Vajringa Street, and also accompanied it on its return to St Augustine's Convent.

The students thoroughly enjoyed this meaningful experience and were proud to be part of such a special event. A sincere thank you goes to the parents for their support and assistance.

Year 9 Accounting students visited KPMG, where they attended an engaging talk delivered by employees from various departments, who shared insights into their roles. The students also took part in a short workshop, with the winning team receiving a small goodie bag. Thank you for hosting us!

Agribusiness students visited Ta’ Mikiel Olive Grove where they immersed themselves in nature while learning about olive trees. They also enjoyed tasting freshly produced olive oil.

On Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th March, our Year 9 and Year 10 Ethics students took part in an engaging seminar led by personnel from Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.
During the seminar, students worked in groups to explore a variety of ethical ideas through interactive activities. Topics such as digital accountability, online behaviour, egoism, empathy, fairness, love and consent were discussed, giving students the opportunity to share their perspectives and learn from one another.
It was a truly enriching experience, allowing students to reflect on important ethical concepts in a fun, interactive, and collaborative environment.

Is-seba’ vizzji li jaffettwaw il-ħajja tagħna u l-virtujiet li jgħinuna nirbħuhom. Ġiet organizzata ġurnata ta’ riflessjoni għall-istudenti tad-disa’ sena u ġurnata oħra għall-istudenti tal-għaxar sena fejn l-istudenti ġew igwidati biex jintebħu bis-seba’ vizzji f’ħajjithom u l-mod kif jistgħu jegħlbuhom. It-tema ġiet ppreżentata b’mod li jattira lill-istudenti, b’attivitajiet u logħob fejn l-istudenti pparteċipaw bi ħġarhom. Fl-aħħar spiċċajna biċ-ċelebrazzjoni tal-quddiesa fejn waqt l-offerti l-istudenti ppreżentaw ix-xogħol li għamlu fl-attivitajiet li kellhom. Wara l-quddiesa kellna l-Music Bingo, logħba li ntgħoġbot ħafna.

Euroscola

A group of 12 students and two educators have left for Strasbourg on Thursday, to attend the Euroscola event being held at the European Parliament on Friday 13th March 2026. They are travelling together with educators and students from Bishop's Conservatory school.
This will be a beautiful learning experience for all those involved!

Well done to the SCDP Year 10 Football students for the effort and determination shown in finishing in 4th place in the SCDP National Football League held at the Mellieħa Football Pitch.
