"A leader must be a person with a conscience"

That was one of the memorable statements from Prof. PLO Lumumba during his session on "Leadership in the Context of AI in Africa."

He reminded delegates that AI is calling us to adapt to changing times, but we must never allow technology to define who we are.

"If you don't define yourself, you will be defined by others."

Prof. Lumumba emphasized that technology is neutral. The real question is how we choose to use it and whether African leadership is prepared to leverage it for Africa's development.

He also noted that when leadership suffers, the country pays the price. If Africa is to embrace the future of AI, it must first invest in good leadership, research, and collaboration.

His final challenge was simple:

"Don't talk about being good. Be good yourself."

Know You. Grow You. Lead You.

Joanna Avin shared this message with delegates at the All-Africa Leadership Summit 2026.

She encouraged participants to open their minds to healing, restoration, and growth, reminding them that emotional intelligence is not something we are born with, it is developed through the daily choice to remain calm, especially in moments of chaos.

Her message was clear:

You cannot lead others effectively until you first understand yourself.

Self-awareness is the foundation of growth, and growth prepares us to lead with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

She left delegates with a simple affirmation:

"Today I choose to know me, to lead me, and to grow me."

What kind of leadership does Africa need for the future?

That was the central question explored during the Plenary Panel on Leadership & Governance at the All-Africa Leadership Summit 2026.

The discussion examined how values-based leadership, accountable governance, ethical decision-making, and strong institutions can position Africa to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

The leadership perspectives and concepts were different but all people centric. Leadership is about leading people, period.

As the session drew to a close, the panelists were asked one final question:

What kind of leader does Africa need now?

Their responses were both simple and profound:

• A high-road leader
• A leader who stands for morality
• A performant leader
• A human leader

In a world shaped by rapid technological change, Africa's future will depend on leaders who not only deliver results but also lead with integrity, accountability, and unwavering values.

"What story is being written about Africa today?"

During an engaging interview with Dr. Madison Ngafeeson at the All-Africa Leadership Summit 2026, Prof. PLO Lumumba reflected on Africa's journey from its colonial past to its present.

He observed that Africa is beginning to discover its true potential and is working tirelessly to maximize it.

Looking ahead to the next 20 years, he expressed confidence that Africa will rise, but reminded delegates that leadership is not reserved for politicians alone. Leadership begins wherever we are.

When asked about our responsibility in shaping Africa's future, his answer was simple and powerful:

"It can be done, so play your part."

Why do you want to lead?

That was the question Kate Onakomaiya challenged delegates to answer during her session on "A Leader's Highest Calling: Sacrifice, Explosive Growth and Legacy."

She reminded us that the law of sacrifice in leadership is simple: a leader must give up to grow up.

True legacy, she said, is not measured by bank accounts or trophies, but by the impact we leave in the hearts of people.

She left delegates with three reflection questions:

• What are you willing to give up to grow up?
• Who are you building?
• What legacy are you leaving in someone?

Her challenge was practical and powerful: As you connect with people, make them feel good. Make them know they are valued. Make them know they are important.

Leading Yourself in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

In this age of AI, may we never lose our uniqueness to artificial identity.

During his powerful session at the All Africa Leadership Summit 2026, Ray Popham reminded us of these timeless truths:

• AI is a tool to be directed by humans not the other way around.
• The world still needs authentic leaders: those who show empathy, lead by example, and embody qualities no machine can replicate.
• Leadership begins with self staying true to your identity rather than building a borrowed one in the digital age.

Can one person make a difference?

This was the powerful reflection question shared by Dr. Madison Ngafeeson, President of LEAD Missions International, during the opening sessions.

He shared his personal journey , from a humble young man in the interiors of Cameroon who left his hometown with little more than a dream to make a difference, to building a movement that has impacted over 35,000 people across different countries.

His story is a reminder that great movements often begin with one person, one vision, and one decision to take action.

His message to Africa was clear:

“Africans don't lack brains. They don't lack skills. They lack leadership...for leadership is the center that holds everything together.”

The challenge before us is simple: become the leader your nation needs to build a more prosperous future.

The All Africa Leadership Summit 2026 opened with a powerful welcome message from Pastor Cathy Nissley Garcia, welcoming participants from across Africa and beyond.

She asked: “𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙬𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮?” reminding us that the future depends not only on innovation, but on the integrity and values of those who lead.

Her call was clear: 𝑡𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑛𝑜𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑦 𝑚𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑏𝑒 𝑔𝑢𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝑝𝑢𝑟𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝.

The All Africa Leadership Summit 2026 has officially kicked off with a vibrant parade of nations.

Over 15 countries represented on site, and many more joining us online.

Together, we wave as we celebrate unity, diversity, and the spirit of leadership across our continent and beyond.

This year’s theme, “Leading in the Age of AI”, invites us to explore how innovation and wisdom can shape Africa’s future.
