We offer medical Spanish for health professionals in Denver as well as exchange trips for students of all levels to Argentina, Brasil and Colombia! Amigos del Sur is here to help improve your efficiency and effectiveness at work, during office visits, lab work, follow-up telephone calls, surgery, and health emergencies. Any level of Spanish language mastery—beginning, intermediate, or advanced—on
the part of medical personnel and university students at Anschutz Campus will benefit both health providers and patients. Interacting with medical professionals who know their native language puts your Spanish-only patients at ease and results in more meaningful rapport. Even when an interpreter is assisting, your own personal comprehension of Spanish and Hispanic cultures will enhance your confidence and awareness in all medical settings. In 2003 while at Cornell University, Andrés Lema-Hincapié founded Amigos del Sur, a group of adventurers for cultural exploration. Amigos del Sur is an international institute whose students experience a unique mix of academic rigor and cultural discovery. This program has been well established now in Argentina, particularly in Buenos Aires, where students spend six-weeks improving their language skills while taking courses from experts in Argentine culture. Amigos del Sur now hosts groups of participants on shorter specialized cultural trips. We have visited colonial cities and fishermen towns by the Caribbean see in Cartagena, Colombia, and soon the students of Amigos del Sur will travel to the bustling capital city of Bogotá. Our goal is to inspire cultural understanding and an appreciation for the peoples of other nations, while expanding the language skills of every participant. Our small groups allow for individualized learning and truly unique travel experiences. Join us so we can become Amigos del Sur!
