Painting School of Montmiral Runs mould-breaking summer courses in drawing, painting and personal creativity.

My story is that of a graduate in History who became an artist and who had the great fortune to meet Professor Marian Bohusz-Szyszko, a Polish artist and teacher who introduced me to ideas about colour in painting that set me up for life. These ideas were based on a deep study of art history with particular reference to Seurat, Cezanne and Bonnard. In testing them out in my own painting and trying to understand why they worked so well, issues emerged that led to research at the University of Stirling and to a host of new insights both into the making of paintings and drawings and into the experience of looking at them.

Continuing the series of photos of the fields around Castelnau de Montmiral. It is now July, the time for stubble fields left after harvesting, the hay bales and the first sunflower fields, not quite yet at their at their glowing yellow glory. Also a reminder that there are still a few places available for both our Autumn courses, the dates for which are 25 August to 9 September and 16 September to 30 September). As our website says, we offer a "a serious learning experience for all levels of attainment", and do so whatever the subject matter or medium you wish to choose.

To continue my series of 'old' and 'new' photos of Castelnau to Montmiral, here is one from the East end taken between the two world wars and another from June this year. I have also added one of the same view from the early 1990s, accompanied by a pastel painting coming from a similar time. I will provide photos from the West end in a separate post

I definitely honed my landscape painting skills at the Painting School of Montmiral over the summers of 2008, 9 & 10. Here are a couple recent efforts. Both paintings are on display at a gallery in Bend, Oregon.

As promised, here is another comparison between old and new Castelnau de Montmiral. This time from the Southern side of the "Place des Arcades". Notice the man leaning by the pump to the right in the old version, and the the sham well, in the middle of the new. Another big change is the all-over lime rendering on the facade of the house on the far right, in the old photo, has become beams and brickwork, in the new one. Finally notice the glimpse of a cart to the left and the cartwheels under the far arcade.
