Three weeks ago, a small group of studio owners took several days completely away from their studios.

No classes to teach. No admin to chase. No decisions to make about someone else’s child.

Just space to think, talk honestly, and get clear on where they actually want to take their business.

What came out of those two days was not what I expected - and I say that having run a lot of rooms.

Here’s a little window into some of the magic…

Genuinely did not plan for this to take over my week.

But four days of deep diving into Claude later, I have a lot of thoughts about what’s actually possible for studio owners - and I’m not done yet.

More coming soon. Watch this space đź‘€

Mother’s Day can mean a lot of different things.

For some, it’s raising children.
For others, it’s being the “studio mum” to a team, students, families and everyone in between.
It’s the dog mums.
The step mums.
The foster mums.
The aunties.
The “dad mums” doing both roles at once.
The women who naturally hold people together, even when they’re running on empty.

And when you really break it down…
being a “mum” isn’t just about biology.

It’s about loving people deeply.
It’s about getting back up when you’re exhausted.
It’s making hard decisions that people may not understand in the moment… but you know are in their best interest.
It’s carrying responsibility quietly.
Being the safe place.
The sounding board.
The protector.
The encourager.
The one who absorbs emotions all day long and still shows up with care.

It’s the mental load no one sees.
The worry.
The pride.
The sacrifice.
The constant thinking ahead.
The fierce love behind the scenes.

And honestly?
For me… it’s my purpose.

To lead.
To nurture.
To guide.
To build something bigger than myself.

It’s part of my legacy.
And it will be for every day I take a breath on this earth.

Happy Mother’s Day to every woman carrying love, leadership and care in her own way.

30 years running my studio…here’s what I know…

When enrolment numbers dip, it’s easy to go straight into panic mode.

Question the timetable.
Change the marketing.
Start comparing yourself to every studio within a 10km radius.

But most of the time, those reactions make things harder, not better.

Which is exactly why I created this guide.

Inside, I share the 3 things to check before you change everything in your studio.

You can grab it via the link in my bio.

Let’s simplify this.

Structure equals freedom.

It’s not just dance.

It’s…
Self belief
Focus
Growth

What they learn in here shapes who they become out there
…and we don’t take that lightly.

Teaching Dance Beyond the Steps: A Book for the Teachers Who Care Deeply About Their Craft

If you've been teaching dance for a while, you’ll know that our industry has changed.

Kids learn differently. Parents expect more. The pace is faster. The pressure feels bigger. And yet, at the heart of it all, teachers are still the ones shaping confidence, resilience and joy in the studio every single day.

After more than thirty years of teaching, mentoring and leading inside this industry—from my parents’ garage all the way to running a 1200-student studio—there was one thing I kept coming back to:
Dance teachers deserve practical support, real stories, and guidance that actually reflects what happens in the classroom.

That’s why I wrote Teaching Dance Beyond the Steps. This isn’t a book filled with theory. It’s the resource I wish I had when I was figuring everything out with no roadmap, no mentor, and no clue how to balance technique, classroom management, parent communication, confidence building, emotional support and everything else that gets thrown at us.
It’s written for the teacher who wants to feel confident and clear.

For the teacher who wants to inspire without burning out.
For the teacher who loves dance, but loves the students even more.

Why This Book Matters Right Now?
Teaching dance today is not the same as it was 10 or 20 years ago.
You’re not just teaching steps—you’re guiding young people through emotions, identity, resilience, teamwork, expectations and sometimes even challenges happening in their world outside the studio.

This book helps you navigate all of that with more ease, clarity and confidence.

The 5 Principles of Dance Teacher Mastery that I share inside are the same ones I’ve used to train hundreds of teachers across Australia. They’ve been tested, refined and lived—not theorised.

Every chapter gives you something practical you can take straight into the studio.

Small shifts that make a big difference in how students respond to you, connect with you and grow with you.

A Book for Every Stage of the Teaching Journey
Whether you’re:
• brand new to teaching
• a long-time educator wanting fresh ideas
• a studio owner wanting to raise the standard across your team
…this book will meet you where you are.

My goal isn’t to tell you how to teach.
It’s to give you the tools, perspective and confidence to teach with intention, impact and longevity.

You became a teacher because you love this work.
This book will help you love it even more—because it reconnects you to the bigger purpose behind what happens in the classroom.

If You’re Ready to Strengthen Your Teaching, Here’s Where to Start
Teaching Dance Beyond the Steps is not about perfection.

It’s about clarity, confidence and connection—the things that make you the kind of teacher students remember forever.

Growing a dance studio isn’t about doing more, adding more classes, or working longer hours. Real studio growth comes from clarity, structure, and the right support — and most studio owners simply haven’t been taught how to build a business, only how to run a studio.

I learned this the long way.
Before becoming a coach, I spent 30 years building my studio from the ground up — expanding locations, hiring teams, juggling admin late at night, and carrying all the pressure on my own. My studio eventually grew to over 1,000 students and successfully sold multiple locations, but behind the scenes I was exhausted, constantly problem-solving, and unsure how to scale without burning out.

The turning point came when I realised studio growth isn’t created through hustle — it’s created through strong foundations. Clear systems. A consistent student experience. Strong retention. Confident leadership. And the mindset shift from “studio operator” to “studio CEO.”

When these pieces come together, your studio becomes easier to run, easier to grow, and easier to sustain long term.

If you’re in that messy middle — capable but stretched, excited but unsure, growing but without a map — you’re not alone. And you’re not meant to figure it all out by yourself.
