Congratulations are in order for all the Bradley University students! Even in the best of times, college life can be challenging. These students met those challenges in the midst of a Pandemic. They remained focused on their goals even in a virtual campus setting! Special acknowledgement goes out to this year's business award winners!!!

In the Retailing course we discuss consumer privacy concerns and data security issues.
Today a good example of a PHISHING/SPOOFING email came to my inbox - supposedly from AMAZON. It was most definitely NOT from AMAZON!!!
PLEASE READ THIS FULL POST SO YOU DO NOT FALL VICTIM TO ANY PHISHING/SPOOFING EMAILS!!!
I have included a Screen Shot of the email I received.
I have reported the incident to AMAZON and forwarded the email on to them as an attachment. My hope is that as more people are shopping online than ever, many of them new to the online shopping platform, retailers like AMAZON will make a greater effort at EDUCATING CUSTOMERS about how their account information is managed.
I HAD TO GO THROUGH MANY MANY STEPS TO FINALLY GET THROUGH TO THE RIGHT HELP SCREEN THROUGH THE AMAZON WEBSITE.
Because I will be sharing this post on my general Facebook feed as well, we can use the terms SPOOFING and PHISHING interchangeably. For my Students we do cover the differences between SPOOFING and PHISHING.
In the case of a SPOOFING email, clicking on the link provided will trigger a download of malware.
In the case of PHISHING, clicking on the link would take you to a bogus website where you would be asked to enter in sensitive account data.
As this PHISHING/SPOOFING attempt goes - the hackers were sloppy. A quick look at the SENDER address and you can see this email is NOT FROM AMAZON.
BOTTOM LINE - NO REPUTABLE RETAILER will ever ask you to update your account info or provide any other sensitive data through an email message. DO NOT CLICK THROUGH ANY LINK FROM ANY RETAILER THAT ASKS YOU TO UPDATE YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION!
INSTEAD - either go to the Retailer's website by typing in their URL through your web browser and then securely log into your account with that retailer. DO NOT CUT AND PASTE A LINK FROM AN EMAIL - type in AMAZON.com
