Social media can be brilliant.
It can inspire us, teach us and introduce us to amazing people.
But it can also make us forget one really important thing...
We’re all at different stages of our journey.
You might be comparing your first month to someone else’s tenth year.
Or your busy week with someone who has a completely different lifestyle.
That’s never going to be a fair comparison.
One of the things I love most about coaching is helping people stop looking sideways and start looking at how far they’vecome.
Because confidence doesn’t come from being better than someone else.
It comes from realising you’re stronger, fitter or more capable than you were yesterday.
💛 Has comparison ever held you back? Or have you found yourself celebrating your own progress more recently? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

People often ask me what made me become a personal trainer.
The honest answer is... it started with me needing one.
When I first walked into a gym, I wasn’t confident.
I worried people would look at me.
I worried I didn’t belong.
I simply wanted to lose weight.
With the help of my personal trainer, I went on to lose 7 stone, but looking back, the weight loss wasn’t the biggest transformation.
The biggest change was what happened in my mind.
Every session gave me another small reason to believe in myself.
Every little achievement chipped away at the doubts I’d carried for years.
Confidence didn’t arrive overnight.
It grew because someone believed in me before I believed in myself.
That’s a lesson I’ve never forgotten.
And it’s exactly why I coach the way I do today.
When someone joins Built for Real Life, they’re not just getting a training programme.
They’re getting a coach who understands that everyone starts somewhere.
A coach who knows life isn’t always perfect.
A coach who builds a plan around the individual—not the other way around.
Because I don’t just want people to lose weight or get stronger.
I want them to leave believing they’re capable of far more than they ever imagined.
I can’t promise the journey will always be easy.
But I can promise you’ll never be doing it alone.
If you’re waiting until you feel confident enough to start...
Maybe this is your reminder that confidence usually comes after you begin.

Have you ever downloaded a fitness programme that looked great... but just didn’t fit your life?

I think that’s one of the biggest reasons people lose confidence.
Not because they aren’t capable.
But because they’re trying to follow a plan that was never designed for them in the first place.
That’s why every client I coach has a programme built around their life.
Some train at home.
Some love the gym.
Some travel regularly.
Some work shifts.
Some are complete beginners.
Some have years of experience.
No two people are the same.
So why should their coaching be?
That’s what Built for Real Life means.
Personal coaching that adapts with you, wherever and however you train.
Because confidence doesn’t come from finding the perfect programme.
It comes from finding the right one for you.

Helping you build a stronger body for the life you want to live—through coaching that fits around your real life.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe you weren’t the problem?
So many people lose confidence because they can’t stick to a fitness plan.
They miss a workout.
Go on holiday.
Have a busy week at work.
The kids get ill.
Life gets in the way.
And they think they’ve failed.
But what if the real problem wasn’t you...
What if it was the plan?
Over the years, I’ve realised confidence doesn’t come from finding the “perfect” programme.
It comes from following one that’s realistic enough to fit your life.
That’s why I don’t believe in generic online plans.
No two people I coach have the same life, so why would they have the same programme?
Some train at home.
Some love the gym.
Some travel regularly.
Some work shifts.
Some are just starting out.
My job is to build a programme around their life and adapt it as life changes.
That’s what Built for Real Life means.
Not because life is always easy.
But because good coaching should meet you where you are, not where someone else thinks you should be.
Because confidence doesn’t come from being perfect.
It comes from showing up, one step at a time, in a way that’s sustainable for you.
💬 What’s the biggest thing that makes it difficult for you to stay consistent with exercise?

Looking at this photo, you’d probably think confidence came naturally to me.
I can assure you... it didn’t. 😄
I was invited onto a podcast recently.
We were chatting away, laughing, and I had a brilliant time.
But looking at this photo made me think about something...
It’s so easy to look at someone as they are today and assume they’ve always been that way.
The truth is, years ago I was the person sitting outside the gym wondering if I should just drive home.
I worried people would look at me.
I worried I’d make a fool of myself.
I worried I didn’t belong there.
I honestly believed confident people were just... different.
That they were born with something I didn’t have.
But I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I didn’t suddenly wake up one day feeling confident.
I simply kept showing up.
One gym session became another.
Then another.
Slowly, without even noticing, I stopped worrying so much about what everyone else thought because I was too busy proving something to myself.
Every session taught me something.
Every little win made me a little more capable.
And somewhere along the way, confidence quietly followed.
That’s why I always say you don’t need confidence before you begin.
You build confidence by doing.
By showing up when you’re nervous.
By trying something new.
By keeping the promises you make to yourself.
So if you’re waiting until you feel confident enough to start...
This is your reminder that you don’t have to.
Start first.
Confidence has a funny way of catching up 🤩

One of the biggest things I’ve learned over the years is that confidence isn’t something you magically wake up with.
It’s something you build.
Every workout you complete.
Every walk you go on.
Every time you choose to show up, even when you don’t feel like it.
Those small actions might not seem like much at the time, but they become evidence.
Evidence that you’re stronger than you thought.
More capable than you realised.
And before you know it, confidence starts to grow alongside it.
So if you’ve been waiting until you feel confident enough to start...
Maybe you’ve been waiting for the wrong thing.
What’s one small step you could take today?

People often think confidence comes first.
I used to believe that too.
Looking back, I realise confidence wasn’t what got me through the gym doors.
Someone else’s belief in me did.
Over time, every session made me a little stronger, a little more capable... and confidence quietly followed.
That realisation completely changed the way I coach today.
I’ve written more about it in this week’s blog if you’d like to read the full story. ❤️
Link’s in my bio.

People often tell me I seem really confident.
The funny thing is... I’ve never really seen myself that way.
I’ve always been chatty. I laugh a lot, make jokes and probably come across as someone who’s got things together.
But that’s not always how I’ve felt on the inside.
Years ago, when I decided it was time to lose weight, I was terrified of walking into a gym.
I worried people would look at me.
I worried I’d make a fool of myself.
I worried I didn’t belong there.
That’s one of the reasons I hired a personal trainer.
At the time, I thought I needed someone for the knowledge, the accountability and, if I’m honest, the confidence.
Looking back, I realise I was actually looking for something much bigger.
I needed someone who believed in me before I believed in myself.
Every session I became a little stronger.
A little fitter.
A little more capable.
And something else happened that I didn’t notice at the time...
Confidence quietly started to grow alongside it.
It didn’t arrive before I began.
It arrived because I kept showing up.
Even now, I still doubt myself sometimes.
Posting videos.
Trying something new.
Putting myself out there.
The difference is, I don’t wait until I feel confident anymore.
I’ve learned that confidence usually turns up after you’ve taken the first step.
That’s why I coach the way I do.
Yes, I’ll teach you how to train.
Yes, I’ll help keep you accountable.
But more than anything, I want to help you believe you’re capable of more than you think.
Sometimes we all need to borrow someone else’s belief for a while.
And that’s okay.
❤️ I’d love to know... what’s one thing you’ve been waiting to feel confident enough to do?
Helping you build a stronger body for the life you want to live—through coaching that fits around your real life.
