Empowering Student Voice through Design – Grade 8 (MYP-2)

Our Grade 8 (MYP-2) students are exploring "how the learning environment impacts their learning" through an MYP interdisciplinary 3D Design unit. They are connecting mathematics concepts—such as measurements, angles, and reflections—with real-life design applications.

With our new campus opening in September 2026, students were excited to take part in designing their own learning spaces. In collaboration with school management, they will create classroom interiors using 3D software, produce models through 3D printing, and present them in a friendly competition.

The best designs will be recognized, and students will have the opportunity to help decorate their own classroom—giving them true ownership of their learning environment.

I’m proud to share that my 7th-grade students have successfully completed their MYP-1 Unit-2 on 3D Design!
Throughout this unit, students explored how to design objects using 3D software, developing both their creativity and technical skills. They inquired deeply into the real-world applications of 3D design and gained a clear understanding of how digital tools are used to create prototypes.

As part of their learning journey, students took inspiration from castle forts and designed their own structures (inspired by a sample). This hands-on experience helped them understand how different geometric shapes and precise measurements come together to create meaningful, functional designs.

It’s been inspiring to see their curiosity, innovation, and problem-solving skills grow. Looking forward to seeing how they apply these skills in future projects!

Our students recently designed and built their own Sumo Robots and participated in a contest with classmates! Throughout their inquiry journey, they brainstormed and researched different robot components—like parts, motors, and chassis design. They explored how size, speed, and weight are interconnected in creating an effective sumo robot. They discovered that a heavier robot may push harder but needs stronger motors, while a faster robot must balance control and stability. This hands-on experience perfectly reflects the IB MYP Design cycle, where students inquire, develop ideas, create solutions, and evaluate their performance. Beyond the competition, they strengthened their critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills—true learning through design and innovation.
