I will have the great honor and privilege to speak about “Medical Education in the Age of ICT and AI: Rethinking Learning and Teaching Beyond Directed Instruction” for the Erasmus+ project METIS (Future-Proofing Medical Education through Emerging Technologies for Enhanced Social Resilience).
I will talk about how “Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and especially Artificial intelligence (AI), fundamentally changes the conditions under which learning and teaching in higher education take place. When access to information, explanations, and procedural guidance becomes instantly available, traditional models of directed instruction centered on knowledge transmission lose much of their educational rationale. This transformation is particularly consequential for medical and health sciences education, where professional competence depends not only on knowledge acquisition but on clinical reasoning, ethical judgment, collaboration, and adaptive expertise. This keynote examines how ICT, and specifically AI, reshapes learning environments, student practices, and academic expectations in higher education. Drawing on socio-constructivist perspectives on learning and teaching, the talk argues that the central task of medical education is shifting from teaching students what to know toward designing learning environments in which students learn how to think, interpret, decide, and act under uncertainty.”

Very good news about promising developments in higher education practices.
I am looking forward to making a small but hopefully inspiring contribution to this Erasmus+ project with a keynote speech in April.
« Our participation in this project gives us a valuable opportunity to collaborate with prestigious European universities and exchange ideas with leading experts in medical education. Through this partnership, we gain fresh perspectives on how technological innovations and concepts of social resilience can enrich our teaching practices. These insights will inspire and guide us as we continue shaping the vision for our future master’s programme in Medicine, ensuring it reflects both scientific excellence and the evolving needs of modern healthcare. » - Maria Angeliki Pavlou

I'm happy to announce that the European Kids Online Network published a (technical) report on "European children's use and understanding of generative AI", a quantitative and qualitative study done within the context of the EU Kids Online 2026 project.
I had the pleasure to contribute to this international project together with Claudine Kirsch (PI in Luxembourg), Isabelle Albert and Philipp Sischka. Our team will soon publish a complementary (technical) report focusing on the findings for Luxembourg.
