Welcome to our Newest MITESOL Board Members!

✨Dr. Briana Asmus - Journal Co-Editor
Many of you know Dr. Asmus as a former MITESOL president. We are so pleased to welcome her back to the board in this new capacity! Dr. Asmus is an Associate Professor and Director of the Literacy Program at Aquinas College, with a Ph.D. in English education /postcolonial studies from Western Michigan University. Her research focuses on social justice and critical approaches to pedagogy, making her a wonderful fit for this role.

✨Olivia Rivera - Treasurer
Olivia brings a wealth of TESOL experience to this role, including her current role as an instructor and English class coordinator at The Literacy Center of West Michigan. She holds an MA in TESOL from Cornerstone University and has served in a variety of teaching and administrative roles across the field.

✨Tugra Yatir - Website Coordinator
Tugra’s passion for educational technology and digital tool integration makes him an excellent choice for this position. His background spans English language instruction, curriculum development, and communicative language teaching across settings in Turkey and the United States.

✨Kristy Crosby - Conference Exhibits Manager
Christy is the multilingual learner coordinator at Kearsley Community Schools and brings valuable experience supporting multilingual Learners including her prior work at Genesee Intermediate School District.

We are so grateful to each of these dedicated professionals for stepping up to serve our community. Please join us in giving them a warm MITESOL welcome!

📣 We are excited to announce that the Call for Proposals is now open for the MITESOL 2026 Conference!

This year’s conference theme is:

: Authentic Intelligence and Human Connection

Join us on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Michigan State University in East Lansing as we celebrate MITESOL’s 51st Annual Conference and explore the power of authentic teaching, human connection, and educator expertise in language education.

We invite educators, researchers, administrators, community partners, and advocates working with multilingual learners to submit proposals that inspire conversation, collaboration, and innovation in our field.

Proposal submissions are due by Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 11:59 PM EDT.

MITESOL 2026 will feature a variety of session formats, including:
• Practice-Oriented Presentations
• Research-Oriented Presentations
• Workshops
• Panel Discussion

This year, MITESOL is also launching our new conference platform, Dryfta, which will be used for proposal submissions and conference registration.
