These amazing students are just getting started. I can’t wait until we see them again in 10 years and hear about all of their successes and how they’ve made a positive impact on our community. Well done and more to come from North Idaho College

Update 11:27 a.m.
Due to North Idaho College’s closure for inclement weather, the NIC vigil scheduled for tonight at NIC’s main campus is canceled. You can view U of I’s vigil live here at 5 p.m. tonight (https://www.uidaho.edu/news/ui-live). If you are watching or remembering from home, please let the Vandals know you are supporting them by using if you choose to post a photo.

Update 9:30 a.m.
The regular meeting of the North Idaho College Board of Trustees scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 30 has been canceled due to inclement weather and campus closure. NIC administration is working with the board of trustees to reschedule the November meeting as soon as possible. The rescheduled meeting information will be posted as soon as possible at nic.edu/board.

Update 6:28 a.m.
Due to inclement weather concerns, we have decided to cancel the University of Idaho Student Remembrance Vigil tonight. Please stay tuned for updates and alternative activities to honor the victims.

North Idaho College is closed Wednesday, November 30 due to inclement weather and hazardous driving conditions. This includes all NIC Campuses - the main campus in Coeur d'Alene, the Workforce Training Center in Post Falls, the Parker Technical Education Center in Rathdrum, and NIC at Sandpoint. Check nic.edu/emergency for the latest information.

Steady snowfall from the national weather service is still predicted, along with wind and drifting snow.

While closing is never an easy decision, we thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this weather and work in the best interest and safety of our students, our employees, and our community.

Below are some early iterations for drone system. We plan to use our drone to more easily locate bears in their dens. With our flat back and portable design, it will allow the field researchers at DGIF to use the drone and take it to several locations much more easily. Our team is working on evolving these two design aspects into a finalized drone.

Pictured is B.E.A.R.S (Bear Excitation And Response System). B.E.A.R.S will serve as a deterrent system against nuisance bears inflicting crop damage, complete with three sources stimuli aversive to bears. Outfitted with a sound system and lights on its bottom panel, B.E.A.R.S might address bear desensitization to aversive stimuli by exposing food-conditioned nuisance bears to changing, rather than immutable, stimuli. B.E.A.R.S will possess a solar panel on top and extendable arms for its potentially different landing sites.

Check out 's two-drone plan for assisting in oyster restoration in the Chesapeake Bay! On the left, the underwater drone (ROV) with attached propellers, in which the team plans to use to remove excessive sediment on submerged oyster reefs. On the right, an aerial drone equipped with a camera and mapping technology that will be used to gather images of intertidal reefs, reefs that are exposed during low tide, in order to gather more information about the physical structure of the reefs. Members of the team are excited to begin testing these ideas as they travel to Florida this coming weekend to test their ROV design with their sponsor, Dr. Patrice Ludwig. Stay tuned for updates!
